Disney Adds Secret Surprises to Buzz Lightyear Ride Ahead of ‘Toy Story 5’

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is preparing for its return to Magic Kingdom, and the refreshed attraction may contain more surprises than guests expect.

Beyond the new ride vehicles and improved gameplay, Disney Imagineers have quietly added hidden Easter eggs throughout the attraction. Some of those details could even hint at Pixar’s upcoming film, Toy Story 5 (2026).

For years, the Tomorrowland attraction has been one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular family rides. Guests board spinning ride vehicles and help Buzz Lightyear defeat Emperor Zurg by blasting targets during a colorful space mission.

But after nearly thirty years of operation, the attraction was ready for an upgrade.

Disney closed the ride in late summer 2025 to begin a large refurbishment project. The goal was to update the technology behind the ride while keeping the core gameplay that fans already loved.

When the attraction reopens in spring 2026, guests will notice several changes immediately.

The ride now uses redesigned Star Command-themed vehicles that include onboard score displays. These screens track each rider’s score in real time, making the competition between players easier to follow.

The original mounted blasters have also been replaced with handheld versions. Riders can now aim more freely as they target Zurg’s robots and score points throughout the ride.

The targets themselves have also been upgraded to digital systems that respond more clearly when hit.

Those digital upgrades allowed Imagineers to introduce a new layer of hidden surprises.

According to Walt Disney Imagineering producer Kimberly Alison, the team wanted to preserve the small secrets longtime fans enjoy discovering during their rides.

However, the updated technology also allowed designers to rethink how those secrets could appear inside the attraction.

With digital targets and refreshed gameplay scenes, Imagineers were able to add new Easter eggs that simply weren’t possible before.

Disney has strongly hinted that some of these hidden details may reference Toy Story 5.

When asked about the possibility of movie tie-ins, Imagineers teased that guests should pay close attention while riding.

That suggestion alone has already fueled speculation among fans.

Because Pixar has revealed very little about the story of Toy Story 5 (2026), even the smallest hints have generated excitement within the fan community.

Hidden details inside a Disney attraction could offer the earliest clues about the next chapter in the franchise.

The Toy Story series has been a major part of Disney and Pixar history since Toy Story (1995) introduced audiences to Woody, Buzz, and the secret life of toys.

The films that followed built one of the most emotional animated stories ever told, ending with Toy Story 4 (2019).

Now Pixar is returning to the characters once again.

And thanks to the refreshed Buzz Lightyear ride, Disney fans may get their first glimpse of the next adventure before the movie even arrives.

Of course, the mission inside the attraction hasn’t changed.

Buzz still needs help defeating Emperor Zurg.

But this time, riders might be watching the ride scenes just as closely as their scoreboards.

Because somewhere along the mission, Disney has hidden clues waiting to be discovered.
