New Findings Confirm Rename of Galaxy’s Edge Location at Hollywood Studios

Disney’s short-lived Star Wars hotel may be closed, but the story surrounding the project is still evolving.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened at Walt Disney World as a bold attempt to bring a fully interactive vacation to life. Guests were invited to spend two nights aboard the Halcyon, a fictional starliner where every part of the experience—from missions to meals—was tied into a larger Star Wars narrative.

Visitors took part in role-playing adventures, met characters from across the galaxy, and traveled into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as part of the story. The goal was to make guests feel like they were truly part of the saga.

Despite the creative approach, the price tag limited the number of people who could take part. Disney closed the experience in September 2023 after just over a year of operation. Still, the project isn’t disappearing entirely.

In 2025, Disney confirmed that the building once used for the Galactic Starcruiser would be converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

That announcement effectively gave the Halcyon structure a new purpose. Instead of hosting themed vacations, the facility will now serve as a workplace for the designers and engineers who create Disney attractions and experiences.

Aerial images captured last year showed construction activity taking place around the building, including work vehicles stationed around the property. The photos circulated widely online, sparking discussion among fans about the building’s unusual exterior design. Some commenters described the structure as “cold” and even compared it to a “prison-like” facility.

The shift away from the Starcruiser storyline is also showing up inside the parks themselves.

According to Blog Mickey, the docking point once used for Galactic Starcruiser guests inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has quietly been renamed. The cave-style entrance where visitors would emerge after taking their fictional shuttle ride from the Halcyon now features updated signage.

When the experience was active, the area was known as Docking Bay 3. The location has now been relabeled Docking Bay 6. During the hotel’s operation, Starcruiser guests traveled from the Halcyon to Batuu as part of the story-driven itinerary. Their transport would arrive at this docking point inside Galaxy’s Edge, helping continue the illusion that they had landed on the distant outpost planet.

Aside from the name change, the setting itself hasn’t undergone major alterations. Although the real-world hotel has closed and its building is being transformed, the Halcyon starship still exists in the Star Wars universe.

Sharp-eyed fans noticed a brief reference in the trailer for 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu. The ship’s Aurebesh emblem appears alongside the phrase “Halcyon, See the Galaxy,” confirming the vessel remains part of Star Wars canon.

The quick appearance suggests Disney hasn’t completely left the concept behind and continues to acknowledge the starliner within its storytelling. The Galactic Starcruiser is also inspiring fan recreations.

C & S Themed Interiors has begun offering custom-built replicas of the hotel’s distinctive cabins. These installations recreate the futuristic feel of the original rooms, including specialized lighting, an intercom feature, and design elements that match the sleek sci-fi style of the Halcyon.

For Star Wars fans who never experienced the hotel—or who simply want a piece of it at home—the replica cabins provide a unique way to relive the atmosphere.

The Galactic Starcruiser building is being converted into a practical space for Imagineering, while the fictional ship continues to appear across Star Wars media and fan projects. From new uses for the physical structure to small references in upcoming films and series, the Halcyon hasn’t completely faded from the galaxy far, far away.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
