Two years after the closure of Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the Halcyon is finding a new purpose. The hotel, designed as a two-night Star Wars adventure with guests living aboard the ship, closed in September 2023 after just over a year. While the concept was praised for its immersive design, the high cost limited its reach.
Now, the former Starcruiser building is being repurposed for Walt Disney Imagineering. Earlier aerial images showed construction and vehicles around the site, and more recently, markings for possible underground utilities have been documented by @bioreconstruct. The exterior has drawn some criticism, with online comments describing it as “cold” or “prison-like,” but the transformation underscores Disney’s intent to put the space to new use.

Although the physical hotel is gone, the Halcyon remains visible in Star Wars media. A fleeting Easter egg in the trailer for 2026’s The Mandalorian and Grogu shows the ship’s Aurebesh logo along with the tagline “Halcyon, See the Galaxy,” confirming the ship’s place in canon. Disney’s use of the Halcyon in upcoming projects signals that the story of the Starcruiser continues beyond its time as a hotel.
For fans looking to relive the experience, C & S Themed Interiors created a replica room modeled after the original cabins. These recreations include intercom systems, themed lighting, custom trim, and the same sleek design found on the ship, allowing fans to bring a piece of the Halcyon into their homes.

Disney’s handling of the Starcruiser reflects a balance between practicality and storytelling. The building itself is being recycled for office use, while the Halcyon continues to appear in Star Wars content and fan projects. Some guests see these efforts as a reminder of what was lost, while others appreciate that the ship and its adventures are not being erased from memory.
Through Imagineering’s offices, media tie-ins, and fan recreations, the Starcruiser’s story persists. The Halcyon may have retired as a hotel, but its legacy continues to fly across the galaxy, offering fans ways to engage with its narrative long after the voyage has ended.
