Disney Literally Kicked Minnie Mouse Outside To Meet Guests in Florida Weather

Recently, Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom has undergone noticeable changes, as the Big Top, which houses Big Top Souvenirs and Pete's Silly Sideshow, is undergoing significant refurbishment. The fabric roof and sides have been removed, leaving just the steel framework and construction walls around the area. Despite the heavy construction, characters are still greeting guests outside, which feels a bit sad as they used to have a comfortable indoor space.

The Structural Damage Is Bad

Something about Storybook Circus has felt off lately, and not in the usual “construction walls went up overnight” kind of way, with this being the part of Magic Kingdom that's supposed to feel carefree with bright colors and big smiles. At first, it looked like a simple shuffle because characters move all the time, but this time the change didn't feel temporary because the problem isn't the characters but rather the tent structures themselves.

Guests walking through the area began noticing visible damage to the fabric including tears, stretched seams, and areas where structural supports were far too close to breaking through the tent material altogether. In one particularly concerning spot at Pete's Silly Sideshow the damage wasn't subtle at all with a large rip in the fabric making it clear this wasn't cosmetic wear but rather structural damage, and honestly this wasn't the kind of thing Disney could patch overnight.

Where to Find the Disney Characters Now

Minnie Magnifique and The Great Goofini have been spotted meeting fans right near the entrance of the Big Top area just outside the construction walls, while if you're looking for The Astounding Donaldo or Madame Daisy Fortuna, they have been relocated further back into Storybook Circus, typically near the Walt Disney World Railroad station or the nearby restrooms. To guests, it might have looked like a simple shuffle, but the reason behind it was far more serious because you don't host meet-and-greets inside or even near a structure with visible structural damage.

You Need to Plan for This

Since these meet-and-greets have moved outdoors, there are a few things to keep in mind, starting with checking the My Disney Experience app, where wait times for Pete's Silly Sideshow are currently listed as “temporarily unavailable,” though you can still find the individual character appearance times listed. Because these locations are now outdoors, the characters may need to take more frequent breaks or head inside during inclement weather, and honestly, in Florida, that means they could disappear at any moment when a thunderstorm rolls through.

Look for taped-off queue lines on the ground near the Storybook Circus entrance to find exactly where Minnie and Goofy are stationed, because the locations aren't as obvious as they used to be when there was a big tent with signage.

This Has Been Going On Since January

Pete's Silly Sideshow was moved up on the refurbishment schedule, closing earlier than expected in January 2026. That alone would have been notable, but it didn't stop there. Nearby tents, including Big Top Souvenirs, were also showing signs of wear that suggested this wasn't an isolated issue, with fabric tearing near the peaks and support poles appearing to press dangerously close to the surface, while in one area a pole had already broken through.

The language Disney is using or not using matters because this isn't being framed as a quick refresh or a seasonal touch-up, with permits filed months ago already hinting at a lengthy refurbishment cycle. Now, with visible damage forcing closures sooner than expected, it raises a bigger question of how long this has been developing and how much worse it could get before it gets better.

No Timeline for Reopening at Disney

Disney has not yet announced a reopening date for the refurbished Big Top area, which honestly means this could drag on for months, but for now, the chance to meet these characters in the open air offers unique, rare photo opportunity with the circus backdrop, even though Disney kicked Minnie Mouse and friends to the curb by forcing them outdoors into the Florida heat.
