Disney Cruise Guests Were Trapped for Two Hours After a Bomb Threat Hit Cruise Terminal

Monday morning was supposed to be routine. Bags packed, vacation over, walk off the ship, and head home. That is how a Disney cruise debarkation is supposed to go. Instead, guests aboard the Disney Wonder spent two hours locked on board at the Terminal in downtown San Diego. They waited as police swept the building with explosive detection dogs following a bomb threat. Unfortunately, this shut down the entire terminal.

This is what happened, what authorities have said, and where things stand now.

How the Morning Unfolded for Disney Cruise Line

At approximately 7 a.m. on March 30, 2026, an employee at the B Street Cruise Terminal on Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego received a bomb threat. San Diego Harbor Police Sergeant Jose Torres confirmed the terminal was immediately placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. Explosive Detection Canine Units were deployed to search the premises while all debarkation activity was halted across every vessel docked at the terminal.

The Disney Wonder was among those ships. Guests who were already packed and gathered to leave were told to remain on board while the search was conducted. A video captured from inside the ship and shared publicly showed passengers assembled in the atrium with their luggage, waiting without a clear timeline for when they would be allowed to disembark.

Approximately two hours after the initial threat was received, San Diego Harbor Police declared the terminal safe, and passengers were permitted to disembark. Authorities did not release any additional information about the nature of the threat or the status of the investigation beyond the all-clear announcement.

What This Looked Like for Guests

There is no good version of a two-hour unplanned delay on debarkation day. The bags are already packed. The vacation mindset is already gone. Sitting in a ship atrium surrounded by luggage while police work outside the terminal is not a scenario any Disney cruise guest anticipates.

Disney Cruise Line did not issue a public statement about the incident. The response from San Diego Harbor Police was efficient, given the circumstances, and the two-hour window from threat to all-clear is a relatively fast resolution for this kind of situation. But for the guests who lived through it, the morning landed far outside the carefully controlled experience Disney has built its cruise reputation on.

The Broader Context Around Disney Cruise Line Right Now

The San Diego lockdown is landing at a time when Disney Cruise Line is already facing difficult headlines. Earlier this month, a gastroenteritis outbreak was reported following a sailing aboard the Disney Adventure, the newest and largest ship in the fleet. At least nine people reported symptoms after a voyage running from March 16 to 19 out of Singapore. With eight passengers and one crew member affected. The Singapore Food Agency launched an investigation into the incident, and the guests involved received medical attention without requiring hospitalization.

The Disney Adventure entered service in March 2026 with its maiden voyage departing Singapore on March 10th. The ship is the largest in the Disney Cruise Line fleet at roughly 208,000 gross tons and over 1,100 feet long, carrying up to approximately 6,700 passengers. It represents Disney Cruise Line's first permanent deployment in Asia and a significant piece of the company's international expansion strategy. The launch has already generated mixed reviews from guests. The illness outbreak added an unwelcome layer to what was intended to be a milestone debut.

Disney Cruise Line has also dealt with illness situations on other ships in recent memory. A family aboard the Disney Wonder faced extended quarantine earlier this year following a suspected mumps diagnosis. Back in 2023, dozens of guests reported serious illness aboard the Disney Wish.

What Disney Cruise Line Guests Should Take From This

The bomb threat in San Diego was not a Disney failure. It was an external threat directed at a public terminal that police handled quickly and correctly. The two-hour delay was the system working as it should, and nobody was harmed.

What the accumulation of recent incidents does show is a cruise line managing more simultaneous headlines than usual. Disney Cruise Line's overall safety record remains strong, and the brand continues to operate at a high standard. But the last several weeks have been unusually eventful, and guests with upcoming sailings are right to stay informed.
