A surprise character sighting at Magic Kingdom is turning heads—and it’s not your typical Disney encounter.

Guests visiting Walt Disney World are used to magical moments, but every once in a while, something completely unexpected unfolds inside the parks.
Meeting Disney characters remains one of the most beloved parts of the experience. Whether it’s a first photo with Mickey Mouse or an unexpected run-in with a rarely seen character, these interactions often become lasting memories. Disney has leaned into this by introducing limited-time appearances and rotating characters across its parks.
Currently, Magic Kingdom is offering a seasonal meet-and-greet with Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny. Meanwhile, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is marking Earth Day with special character appearances popping up throughout the park. These limited experiences continue to draw crowds, especially from fans hoping to see characters who don’t regularly appear.

But even among these special offerings, one recent appearance stands out in a big way.
Star-Lord, best known from Guardians of the Galaxy, has been spotted in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom—something that’s far from typical. Up until now, guests wanting to meet Star-Lord have needed to visit EPCOT. Since September 2024, he’s been greeting fans near Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
The attraction itself has become one of the most talked-about rides at Walt Disney World. Combining a reverse launch with rotating ride vehicles, Cosmic Rewind delivers a high-energy experience that keeps guests immersed in the story. Add in a rotating playlist of songs, and each ride offers something a little different. Its popularity means many guests use Lightning Lane or join a virtual queue for a chance to ride.

The meet-and-greet nearby extends that experience beyond the ride. Star-Lord interacts with guests, signs autographs, and often brings his signature dance moves into the mix. His typical schedule includes appearances at approximately 11:25 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:10 p.m., and 3:10 p.m., though times can vary.
That’s why seeing him pop up in Tomorrowland caught so many people by surprise.
The setting, however, isn’t completely out of place. Tomorrowland’s futuristic design aligns well with Star-Lord’s intergalactic background. During his appearance, guests saw him dancing alongside Chip, creating a moment that quickly gained attention online. The unexpected duo became an instant hit with fans.

These kinds of surprises are part of what keeps guests coming back. While planned entertainment is always a draw, it’s the spontaneous encounters that often leave the biggest impression. Visitors who happened to be nearby were treated to something truly different from the usual Magic Kingdom lineup.
Marvel characters are not widely used at Walt Disney World due to an agreement with Universal Orlando Resort. Universal maintains theme park rights to many Marvel properties east of the Mississippi River, limiting how Disney can use them in Florida.
Because of this, Walt Disney World doesn’t feature a dedicated Marvel land like those found in California or Paris. Instead, Disney has focused on selective integration, with Guardians of the Galaxy playing a key role at EPCOT. Cosmic Rewind and Star-Lord’s meet-and-greet are central to that approach.

This makes Star-Lord’s Magic Kingdom appearance particularly notable. It’s rare to see a Marvel character outside EPCOT, raising questions about whether Disney is testing new ways to incorporate these characters across different parks.
At this time, Disney hasn’t confirmed if Star-Lord will return to Tomorrowland. Character appearances can shift at any moment, and experiences like this are often unannounced. Even so, guest reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Seeing different worlds collide—classic Disney characters interacting with Marvel heroes—adds an extra layer of excitement to the day.
For guests hoping to meet Star-Lord, EPCOT remains the most dependable option. But as this recent surprise proves, you never know what might happen during a day at Magic Kingdom. And if you hear music and spot Star-Lord dancing through Tomorrowland again, it might be worth stopping to see who joins him next.
