Disney Just Filed a MAJOR Permit for New Hollywood Studios Land

Walt Disney World is going through a major shift right now, and it’s hard to miss. Every park is seeing updates, but Disney’s Hollywood Studios stands out the most.

This park has been evolving for a long time, but recently, everything feels like it’s accelerating. Construction is active, new ideas are taking shape, and now a new permit suggests one of the park’s newest areas may be closer than we thought.

A Park That Never Stays the Same

Hollywood Studios has always adapted to what guests want. It moved away from its original studio-focused concept and leaned into immersive lands that put visitors inside the story.

That’s how we ended up with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land, both of which redefined the park. Attractions like Tower of Terror still hold strong, while newer rides like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway continue to draw crowds.

Even with all of that, Disney isn’t slowing down. The park is still evolving, and the next update is about to open in a big way.

The Walt Disney Studios Area Is Opening Soon

The area formerly known as Animation Courtyard is being rebranded as Walt Disney Studios. This refreshed section is designed to offer more interactive and family-friendly experiences.

Guests will start seeing it for themselves on May 26, when parts of the area open to the public. Not everything will be ready right away, but the phased approach shows how far along the project already is.

A new Disney Jr. show will lead the initial rollout, replacing the previous experience with a more story-driven one. More additions will follow, including a hands-on animation experience where guests can learn to draw characters under the guidance of familiar faces.

The return of the Sorcerer Mickey hat also gives the area a strong visual identity, helping it stand out as something new.

The Permit That’s Turning Heads

Just as excitement builds around the opening, Disney filed a new permit tied to the area—and it’s getting attention.

This permit focuses on signage, which might not sound exciting at first. But in theme park projects, signage usually appears near the end of construction. It’s a signal that the area is coming together.

The permit applies to the Walt Disney Studios section, and there are several possible locations for the signage. One possibility is the updated animation building, especially since nearby elements are already in place.

The project involves Kentavo, a contractor Disney often works with, which points to a high-quality finish. Taken together, the permit suggests meaningful progress behind the scenes.

What Guests Can Expect

For guests planning a visit, this update matters more than it might seem. It points to a steadily moving timeline.

Opening the area in phases gives Disney time to refine each part before everything is fully available. That approach can lead to a smoother experience once the full area is ready.

It also gives guests more room to explore. Hollywood Studios has struggled with crowding, and new space can help spread things out, making the park feel more manageable.

The Future of Hollywood Studios

The updates don’t stop with this new area. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is getting a full retheme with the Muppets and is expected back in summer 2026.

Monstropolis is also in development, bringing a Monsters, Inc. inspired land to the park in the coming years. It’s one of the biggest long-term projects on the horizon.

Even current attractions are evolving. Smugglers Run will introduce a new mission featuring Din Djarin and Grogu starting May 22, 2026, adding something new for returning guests.

A New Era Is Taking Shape

Hollywood Studios is clearly in transition, and the changes aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

The new Walt Disney Studios area is one of the most immediate updates, and this latest permit suggests it’s moving along quickly. It may be a small detail on paper, but it points to a much bigger shift happening behind the scenes.

For fans, that’s the exciting part. The park is changing in real time, and the next chapter is already coming into view.
