For months, guests watched as walls went up and hints started to appear. Something was clearly happening inside Walt Disney World, but the company kept the timeline quiet.
Now, that mystery has been resolved.
Disney has officially shared when guests can experience one of its newest reimagined areas. The announcement may have been low-key, but the impact is anything but small. It adds another layer to a park that continues to change in noticeable ways.
And this update doesn’t exist in isolation.
Disney World Is Changing Fast
Across Walt Disney World, transformation has become the norm.
Magic Kingdom continues to move forward with its planned Villains expansion, while classic attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are also seeing updates.
Hollywood Studios sits right in the middle of that momentum. With Monstropolis on the way and major additions already in place like Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the park keeps evolving at a steady pace.
That makes this next change even more important.

A Familiar Area Gets a New Identity
Animation Courtyard once served as a hub for younger guests and character experiences. It featured shows, meet-and-greets, and the long-running Star Wars Launch Bay.
That era has come to an end.
Disney closed the area to make way for a full transformation. Instead of updating individual elements, Imagineers are reworking the entire space into something new.
The goal is to create a more immersive environment that celebrates animation in a hands-on way.
Opening Day Is Set
Disney confirmed that the first phase of the reimagined area, now called “The Walt Disney Studios,” will open on May 26, 2026.
This initial phase introduces a redesigned courtyard and a new entertainment offering. It’s only part of the full experience, but it signals the start of a larger rollout.
The space reflects the look and feel of Disney’s real animation studio, connecting the park more directly to the company’s creative roots.

Mickey and Friends Take the Stage
A new Disney Jr. show will debut alongside the courtyard.
Mickey and Minnie host a party, but their friends are missing. Guests join the adventure to find Goofy, Daisy, and Pluto, turning the show into an interactive experience.
This new offering replaces previous Disney Junior entertainment and brings fresh energy into the space.
More Is Coming Later
Later in summer 2026, Disney will open The Magic of Disney Animation.
This experience replaces Star Wars Launch Bay and takes inspiration from Once Upon a Studio (2023). The concept imagines a world where characters come to life after the animators leave.
Guests will explore themed areas like “Drawn to Wonderland,” inspired by Alice in Wonderland (1951), as well as interactive elements designed for all ages.
The experience also includes character meet-and-greets and a drawing class led by an Olaf animatronic from Frozen (2013). The building itself mirrors Disney’s Burbank animation studio, including its recognizable Sorcerer Mickey hat.

Hollywood Studios Is Heating Up
This new area arrives during a packed summer.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will launch a new mission on May 22, offering returning guests something new. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will also reopen in summer 2026 with a Muppets retheme, marking one of the park’s biggest ride changes in years.
Together, these updates create a strong lineup of new experiences.

A New Direction for the Park
Hollywood Studios has moved far beyond its original purpose.
Today, the park focuses on immersive storytelling, with each area offering a distinct experience. The Walt Disney Studios continues that approach while putting animation at the center.
With an official opening date now confirmed, the next phase of the park’s evolution is finally within reach.
