Mexico Area Locked Down at EPCOT, Effective Immediately

The Mexico Pavilion in the EPCOT World Showcase is now down to a single entrance. Unfortunately, the resulting crowd congestion is impossible to miss.

The far-left entrance and exit to the iconic pyramid in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion has been closed for months, with scaffolding surrounding that portion of the structure and signage inside directing EPCOT guests to an alternate exit. The project's scope appeared limited at first, suggesting routine infrastructure work. That assessment has shifted.

WDWNT reported on April 28 that the front-left entrance to the pyramid is now also closed — roped off on the outside and blocked on the inside. With both left-side access points out of service, the right side of the pyramid has become the sole entry and exit point for all guests. An image shared by the outlet shows foot traffic clearly funneling to the right, while the left side remains empty behind barriers.

The single-point flow is creating congestion as Walt Disney World Resort guests try to move in and out simultaneously, particularly given everything housed inside the pyramid: shops, the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros attraction, and San Angel Inn Restaurante. All of those offerings remain operational throughout the construction.

Additional scaffolding is now visible on the left exterior of the pyramid, and crews appear to be working on thematic touch-ups and exterior detail work. Walt Disney World Resort has not commented on the project, shared any plans for the structure, or indicated how long the current access restrictions will remain in place.
