The Wait Is Over: Disney World Finally Restores Hotel Perk for Guests This Weekend

Planning a Walt Disney World vacation often feels like putting together a puzzle. You line up park days, reservations, and strategies, hoping everything clicks into place. Every now and then, though, Disney makes a move that reshapes that plan for the better. This time, it’s the return of a resort perk that guests have clearly missed, and it’s coming back on May 2, 2026.

Why Resort Perks Make a Difference

Staying on Disney property comes with more than just convenience—it creates a different kind of trip. You’re surrounded by themed spaces, detailed design, and that constant sense that you’re still inside the Disney bubble.

There are also practical benefits that help you stay ahead of the crowds. Resort guests can secure Lightning Lane selections earlier, giving them better access to high-demand rides. Dining reservations follow the same pattern, opening up earlier and offering more flexibility.

Early Entry plays a big role as well. Getting into the parks before everyone else can change how your entire day unfolds. Add in Disney’s transportation system—buses, Skyliner, monorail, and boats—and you get a setup designed to keep things simple.

When one of those pieces disappears, even temporarily, it stands out.

A Sudden Change at a Popular Resort

Guests at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge felt that shift firsthand. On April 13, the resort’s boat transportation shut down, cutting off the water route to Magic Kingdom.

That change affected more than just travel time. The boat ride itself is a signature part of staying there. Crossing Bay Lake, watching the park approach, and skipping the bus crowds all add to the experience.

Without that option, guests had to rely on buses. While buses kept things moving, they didn’t offer the same relaxed pace or scenic views. For some, that meant rethinking how they approached their park days.

The Return Date Is Set

Fortunately, the downtime isn’t stretching on much longer. Disney has confirmed that the boat service will return on May 2, 2026.

That’s sooner than many expected and comes as a relief for guests with upcoming trips. It restores one of the resort’s standout features and reinstates a transportation option many prefer.

Having both boats and buses available again gives guests more flexibility. Whether you’re heading to Magic Kingdom early or wrapping up a long night, having choices makes planning easier.

Looking Back at Lost Perks

This update also highlights the perks that haven’t returned. Over time, several fan-favorite extras have quietly gone away.

Complimentary toiletries, once a small keepsake from a Disney stay, have been replaced by refillable dispensers. Disney’s Magical Express, which once handled airport transfers, is no longer part of the experience. Complimentary MagicBands have also shifted to a paid option.

These changes don’t take away the magic entirely, but they do reshape what guests expect from a Disney resort stay.

A Familiar Experience Comes Back

The return of boat transportation at Wilderness Lodge brings back something guests genuinely enjoy. It adds convenience, improves flexibility, and restores a piece of the experience that makes that resort unique.

As May 2 approaches, guests can once again plan their days around that peaceful ride across Bay Lake. It’s a small detail, but it carries more weight than it seems.

And it naturally leads to a bigger question—what other Disney resort perk would you want to see make a comeback?
