Mold, Rust, and Medical Fees: Disney Cruise Guests Reveal What Happened Onboard

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship was supposed to represent the company’s next big success story overseas. Instead, the Disney Adventure has spent the past several days surrounded by growing controversy after abrupt cancellations, technical problems, and now firsthand guest complaints that are quickly spreading online.

The Disney Adventure only recently returned to service after a mechanical issue forced Disney Cruise Line to cancel a sailing out of Singapore at the last minute. Thousands of passengers suddenly found themselves stranded after already boarding the vessel, forcing Disney to step in with refunds, hotel accommodations, and travel assistance.

Now, a guest who recently completed a sailing aboard the ship says the problems extended far beyond the cancellation headlines.

Their firsthand experience paints a much different picture than the polished Disney Cruise Line image many guests expect before stepping onboard.

Disney Adventure’s Rough Start Continues

When Disney first announced the Disney Adventure, expectations immediately skyrocketed.

The ship marked Disney Cruise Line’s massive expansion into the Asian tourism market, with Singapore becoming home to one of Disney’s newest and most ambitious cruise experiences. Early demand exploded, especially among Disney fans eager to experience the company’s newest ship.

That excitement hit turbulence last week when Disney abruptly canceled a four-night voyage after guests had already boarded.

Disney later confirmed the cancellation stemmed from a mechanical issue that could not be resolved in time for departure. Guests were offered refunds and compensation, but the incident immediately sparked concerns about whether the ship was experiencing deeper operational problems behind the scenes.

Those concerns only intensified after new guest reports started surfacing online.

Guest Says Mold Was Found on Cheesecake

One of the most alarming claims involved room service food.

According to the guest, they ordered cheesecake during their Disney Adventure sailing and quickly noticed visible mold growing on the dessert after it arrived in their stateroom.

The guest reportedly photographed the incident and contacted crew members onboard.

Disney Cruise Line staff apparently responded quickly and attempted to smooth over the situation by offering chocolate-dipped strawberries as a goodwill gesture. Still, seeing mold on food aboard a Disney cruise is not exactly the kind of experience most families expect when paying premium vacation prices.

Disney Cruise Line has long marketed itself as a more upscale family cruise option. Dining experiences, themed restaurants, and room service are all major parts of the company’s branding. That is why even a single food-related complaint tends to generate strong reactions online.

Cruise ships also operate under extremely strict sanitation guidelines due to how quickly illnesses can spread in enclosed environments. While there is no indication this was part of any larger issue onboard, the visual alone was enough to spark concern among Disney fans following the story online.

At this point, the complaint appears isolated to that single guest experience.

Still, after the ship’s recent cancellation problems, Disney Adventure is already under far more scrutiny than normal.

Onboard Medical Fees Surprise Guests

The guest also shared another detail that many first-time cruise passengers may not fully realize before boarding: onboard medical care can become very expensive.

According to the firsthand account, Disney Adventure’s medical clinic charges consultation fees starting around $150 during regular operating hours. If guests require assistance after 6 p.m., costs can reportedly increase to roughly $350.

That pricing is fairly common throughout the cruise industry, where onboard medical facilities operate similarly to private urgent care centers. However, many travelers do not fully understand those costs before sailing.

For families traveling internationally through Singapore, unexpected medical expenses could quickly become stressful without travel insurance or proper planning.

The timing of these complaints also matters.

Guests already frustrated by canceled sailings and technical problems may become even more sensitive to other onboard issues, especially when discussing value for money.

Rust-Stained Water Raises Eyebrows

Another issue shared by the guest involved one of the ship’s restroom faucets.

According to the report, the faucet was labeled as drinkable water. However, when the guest tested the water using a face towel, visible rust-colored stains reportedly appeared.

The guest also recorded video of the faucet and the discoloration.

Rust-colored water does not necessarily mean the water itself is dangerous. Cruise ships use extensive filtration and water treatment systems that are heavily regulated. Still, seeing visible staining from a faucet marked as drinking water is obviously concerning from a guest perspective.

Disney Cruise Line has built much of its reputation around cleanliness and presentation. Guests often associate Disney ships with spotless conditions and meticulous attention to detail.

That means even relatively small visual issues can stand out much more aboard a Disney ship compared to other cruise lines.

The fact that the Disney Adventure is still a relatively new ship only adds more attention to incidents like these.

Disney Faces Higher Expectations Than Most Cruise Lines

Every cruise line experiences operational problems from time to time, especially during a ship’s early months of operation.

Mechanical delays, maintenance problems, and occasional guest complaints are fairly common across the industry. But Disney Cruise Line operates under a completely different level of expectation because of the Disney name attached to it.

Guests paying Disney prices expect a near-perfect experience from start to finish.

That is why stories involving moldy desserts, rust-colored water, and expensive medical fees can quickly gain traction online — especially right after thousands of travelers were left stranded due to technical failures.

At the same time, the Disney Adventure remains hugely important to Disney’s future cruise plans. The ship represents one of the company’s largest international expansions yet, and demand for sailings remains extremely strong despite the recent headlines.

For now, the Disney Adventure continues operating from Singapore as scheduled.

But after cancellations, technical issues, and now growing guest complaints, Disney Cruise Line may need a long stretch of smooth sailings before confidence fully returns around its newest ship.
