Disney World Confirms 2027 Resort Closures, Strict Rules for Unauthorized Guests

Walt Disney World has confirmed that several popular resort amenities will be unavailable for months in 2027, creating another complication for families planning their next Florida vacation.

Disney's resort hotels are often considered attractions in their own right, offering themed swimming pools, restaurants, recreational activities, and entertainment beyond the company's four theme parks.

However, not every experience is available to everyone visiting Walt Disney World.

As Disney prepares for scheduled refurbishments and the opening of another major hotel, visitors should familiarize themselves with the company's existing policies regarding unauthorized access.

Otherwise, they could discover that certain amenities are completely off-limits, regardless of how much they've spent on their vacations.

Disney World Announces Extended 2027 Resort Closures

Guests staying at Disney's BoardWalk Inn during the first several months of 2027 will encounter some noticeable changes.

Disney has scheduled a refurbishment of the resort's Luna Park Pool, beginning January 11, 2027.

The maintenance project will also temporarily close the Luna Park Crazy Play Area and Leaping Horse Libations Pool Bar.

All three locations are expected to reopen sometime in April, although Disney has not provided a specific reopening date.

The refurbishment means families visiting during this period won't have access to the resort's main themed swimming pool or its nearby recreational facilities.

For some guests, that's a significant inconvenience.

Disney's BoardWalk Inn is a popular destination because of its location near EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios, along with its entertainment offerings and waterfront atmosphere.

However, swimming facilities are also an important part of the experience, particularly for families who spend afternoons relaxing at their hotels.

Thankfully, Disney will keep the BoardWalk Inn Leisure Pool and BoardWalk Villas Leisure Pool open throughout the maintenance project.

But guests hoping to use a different Disney hotel's swimming facilities instead could run into another issue.

Disney World Maintains Strict Rules Against Unauthorized Resort Visits

Disney doesn't generally allow guests to use swimming pools at resorts where they aren't registered to stay.

That means someone staying at Disney's BoardWalk Inn cannot simply travel to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa or Disney's Polynesian Village Resort to use its swimming facilities.

Disney enforces these restrictions through controlled access at many resort pools.

Visitors may encounter gated entrances requiring an eligible room key, MagicBand, or compatible mobile device.

The restrictions are intended to reserve these amenities for registered hotel guests rather than visitors from other resorts.

However, there's an important distinction.

Disney doesn't prohibit guests from visiting other hotels altogether. Visitors can generally explore publicly accessible areas, dine at participating restaurants, and enjoy certain resort activities, subject to individual property restrictions.

Swimming pools are different because they are primarily reserved for eligible guests.

The restrictions also extend to certain pool bars located inside gated swimming areas.

Other poolside dining locations, including some at Disney's All-Star Resorts and Disney's Pop Century Resort, are outside those restricted areas.

These policies aren't new for 2027, but they remain important for visitors planning vacations around the upcoming refurbishments.

Some Disney World Resorts Allow Pool Hopping

Disney does make exceptions to its general pool access policy.

For example, guests staying at Disney's three All-Star Resorts can generally use swimming pools at All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, and All-Star Sports.

Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter and Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside also share swimming privileges.

Additionally, guests staying at Disney's Yacht Club Resort and Disney's Beach Club Resort have access to shared recreational facilities, including Stormalong Bay.

However, these arrangements don't extend to every Disney-owned hotel.

Visitors should confirm their eligibility with resort Cast Members before attempting to use another property's pool.

New Disney World Resort Opens in 2027 With Access Restrictions

Disney Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open July 1, 2027, bringing another major hotel to Walt Disney World.

Among its planned amenities is the Wetlands recreational area, which is expected to become a popular destination for families staying at the new property.

However, guests booked at other Disney hotels shouldn't assume they'll be able to use its swimming facilities.

Disney's existing pool access rules are expected to apply, limiting entry to eligible guests.

The new hotel will give visitors another accommodation option, but it won't automatically expand the recreational privileges of everyone staying on Disney property.

Meanwhile, resort swimming pool operating hours can create additional limitations.

Many Disney hotel pools close around 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., depending on the season and location.

Families returning from a full day at the theme parks may find that their hotel's swimming facilities have already closed.

Ultimately, Disney hasn't announced a new company-wide ban on resort visitors for 2027. The confirmed changes involve scheduled maintenance, while the restrictions on unauthorized pool access reflect existing policies.

Still, with the BoardWalk refurbishment approaching and Disney Lakeshore Lodge preparing to open, guests have plenty of reasons to review the rules before booking their next vacation.
