Walt Disney World Confirms Months-Long Resort Closure for 2027

Walt Disney World guests planning a vacation for early 2027 have another closure to consider before choosing where to stay.

Construction has become common across Disney World, and the work isn't limited to the theme parks. Several resorts have also been receiving updates, and one ongoing project will now stretch longer than originally planned.

That extension will bring a months-long closure to Disney’s BoardWalk Inn next year, potentially changing vacation plans for guests who expect to spend plenty of time relaxing at their resort.

BoardWalk Refurbishment Extends Into 2027

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is currently undergoing general refurbishment work in select areas.

Originally, that work was expected to wrap up in late 2026. Plans have changed, however, and the refurbishment is now scheduled to continue into early 2027.

One of the biggest disruptions begins January 11.

Luna Park Pool, the Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horses Libations will all close on January 11, 2027, for routine maintenance. The closures are expected to continue through April.

That means guests visiting during a significant portion of the winter and spring won't have normal access to one of the resort's primary recreation areas.

The resort itself will remain open. Guests can still stay at BoardWalk during the work, but the extended refurbishment could make the hotel less attractive for families planning resort days or afternoon pool breaks.

Guests May Want to Consider Their Plans

BoardWalk's location remains one of its biggest advantages.

Guests have convenient access to both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, making it particularly attractive for visitors who expect to spend most of their vacation inside the parks.

However, the calculation could be different for families who choose a Disney resort partly because of its amenities.

A feature pool can become an important part of a longer Disney World trip, especially when families schedule breaks between busy park days. Losing Luna Park Pool for several months means some guests may decide another resort makes more sense.

BoardWalk isn't the only Disney hotel dealing with an extended project, either.

At Disney’s Old Key West Resort, refurbishment work at the Hospitality House was originally scheduled for completion in mid-September. That timeline has now shifted, with the project expected to finish sometime this fall.

The changes serve as another reminder that Disney refurbishment schedules can move.

For guests considering BoardWalk in early 2027, the biggest dates to remember are January 11 through April. Anyone booking during that period should expect the feature pool area to look considerably different.
