Mickey Mouse Retheme Planned for Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland

Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland Park is getting a new identity this summer — at least temporarily. Mickey Mouse is the one taking over.

On May 12, WDWNT spotted a sign for “Mickey's Park Rangers” on Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland Park, complete with a Mickey-head-shaped logo and the slogan “Explore, Discover, Collect.” Disney cast members confirmed to the outlet that a scavenger hunt tied to the new branding is coming to Tom Sawyer Island this summer, with the activity extending beyond the island itself to include boats, canoes, and potentially the Disneyland Railroad.

The experience is free and aimed primarily at kids. Participants will collect stamps at various locations throughout the hunt in exchange for a sticker prize at the end. The Mickey's Park Rangers Scavenger Hunt is expected to launch either next Friday or Saturday and run through at least the summer, though whether it eventually becomes a permanent fixture hasn't been confirmed.

The existing Pirate's Lair experience on Tom Sawyer Island — added in 2007 alongside the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End — is not expected to be disrupted by the new scavenger hunt.

A Very Different Story on the East Coast

The simple summer activation in Southern California unfolds against the backdrop of a far more dramatic change underway at Tom Sawyer Island's East Coast counterpart. Walt Disney World Resort permanently closed Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat at Magic Kingdom Park in the summer of 2025, clearing the way for an entirely new addition to Frontierland.

Construction is currently underway on Piston Peak National Park, a Cars (2006)-themed expansion. The new area will bring two attractions to the Magic Kingdom: a rally race thrill ride and a family-friendly experience centered on a brand-new character, Park Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. Walt Disney World Resort has not yet announced a grand opening date for Piston Peak National Park.
