‘Star Wars’ Hotel Location Makes Surprise Return to Disney World Florida

On May the Fourth, nearly three years after the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser closed its doors, a piece of the ill-fated immersive hotel quietly returned to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The Sign That Came Back

The story starts with a change that went largely unnoticed earlier this year. Docking Bay 3 — the area in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge where guests once boarded and disembarked shuttles between Disney's Hollywood Studios and the Galactic Starcruiser hotel — had its signage quietly swapped to Docking Bay 6. For fans already grieving the hotel's 2023 closure, the rename read as Walt Disney World Resort moving to erase what remained of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser's presence in the park.

On May 4, guests waiting to collect mobile-ordered popcorn buckets in the area noticed something different: the Docking Bay 6 sign was gone. In its place, Docking Bay 3 was back — the original name, quietly restored on Star Wars Day. BlogMickey confirmed the change with this photo:

Still No Shuttles, Still No Star Wars Hotel

Unfortunately for fans, the sign restoration doesn't signal that anything is coming back. Walt Disney World Resort has been clear that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser — which drew a devoted fanbase despite a starting price of at least $4,000 for a three-night voyage — will not reopen. The former hotel building is currently being converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Why the area was renamed to Docking Bay 6 in the first place, and why it's now been changed back, remain unanswered questions. One theory is that Disney had been considering a new use for the space before ultimately deciding to preserve it in the same configuration that existed when the Star Wars hotel was still welcoming guests next door.

  1. I would love to see the hotel rebranded as a true Star Wars themed hotel not a poorly themed overpriced space joint.

I would also like to see the return of StarWars weekends!

  2. We stayed on the Starcruiser 2 times. Both times were amazing. People did not truly understand what you got for the money. It was pricey but, it was an experience unlike anything else. Food and accommodations were outstanding. The staff and crew were beyond exceptional.

  3. I would definitely love to see the Galactic Star Cruiser return. As others have commented, it was pricey but the experience was worth twice as much. The cast and crew made sure that you believed you were on the Halcyon. For the duration of our stay, we were truly in a galaxie far away. May the force be will all involved in the Galactic Star Cruiser

  4. Yes! Make it into something besides office space, a themed restaurant or something!

So many people missed the opportunity to visit it or stay there, either by cost or availability.

  5. I know they won’t bring it back but a star wars theme hotel like all there others would be nice addition.

  6. I would like to see a Star Wars themed hotel but not one that most people cannot afford.
I stayed at an off site hotel that had the elevators decorated with interiors of the Millennium Falcon and a Star Destroyer, and had a full sized R2-D2 by the controls that my children thought was wonderful.
When we did the Halcyon my children thought it was boring since they were not interested in the Jedi training.

  7. It needs to return as a themed resort, and be just like all the other resorts.
