Flower & Garden Festival Experience Ended 20 Days Early at EPCOT

Walt Disney World Resort has quietly pulled the plug on one corner of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival before the event has even finished its run.

WDWNT reported on May 12 that Spike's Garden, the walkthrough experience inside CommuniCore Hall in EPCOT's World Celebration neighborhood, has closed. Te EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival doesn't wrap up until June 1, 2026, meaning Spike's Garden has been shuttered a full 20 days before the seasonal event concludes.

The signage hasn't been updated to reflect the closure. Decals and signs welcoming guests to “Sunlight to Starbright in Spike's Garden” are still visible on the windows and doors of CommuniCore Hall, but every entrance to the building is now blocked by stanchions and chains. One sign hanging from the barriers delivers the only official explanation guests will find on the ground: “This Area is Being Reimagined.”

Walt Disney World Resort has not issued a formal statement about the early closure.

What's Moving In

The most likely explanation for the abrupt end to Spike's Garden is the imminent return of GoofyCore, one of the signature offerings of Cool KIDS' Summer. The seasonal event — which runs from May 26 through September 1, 2026 — returns to Walt Disney World Resort in just under two weeks, and CommuniCore Hall is its home base at EPCOT.

GoofyCore first debuted alongside Cool KIDS' Summer in 2025 and quickly became a favorite for families navigating the brutal heat of a Florida summer.

The experience brings Goofy and his cast-member-led “Goof Troop” into the air-conditioned CommuniCore Hall, where young guests are guided through interactive games and dances. Last year, the space was transformed with Goofy-themed décor for the occasion — and preparing that kind of installation clearly requires more lead time than the festival's official end date would allow.

The rest of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival continues through June 1 as planned. Spike's Garden is the only offering that has been cut short.
