Magic Kingdom Park's Vice President issued a park-wide apology on Saturday after the Haunted Mansion failed to open. As of Sunday, the Liberty Square attraction remains dark, with no explanation from Walt Disney World Resort.
An Unexpected Closure

The Haunted Mansion never opened alongside Magic Kingdom Park on May 2. What initially appeared to be a routine delayed opening stretched through the day without resolution, prompting an unusual step from Walt Disney World Resort leadership. Sarah Riles, Magic Kingdom's Vice President, issued a direct apology to guests through a push notification in the My Disney Experience app:
“On behalf of the entire team at Magic Kingdom, I'd like to apologize that Haunted Mansion is currently unavailable. Our Cast Members are working diligently to get the attraction up and running again, and we are sorry you are not able to experience this attraction at this time. I hope you will enjoy some of our other attractions during your experience in the park today.”
As of Sunday, May 3, the Haunted Mansion remains closed.

The My Disney Experience app continues to list the closure as “temporary” without providing a reopening timeline, and Walt Disney World Resort has not offered any reason for the extended outage.

An Attraction Already in the Middle of Changes
The sudden closure comes amid an ongoing exterior refurbishment that began in January 2026. The project initially seemed limited in scope – possibly a facade extension to align with the expanding Frontierland footprint for the upcoming Piston Peak National Park, inspired by Cars (2006).

By February, however, a photo-realistic wrap had been applied to the entire Haunted Mansion facade, with scaffolding now encasing the conservatory, weather vane, towers, and the surrounding backstage areas. The interior of the attraction has remained unchanged.
Walt Disney World Resort has not disclosed its plans for the Haunted Mansion's exterior or shared a timeline for its completion. Whether the current closure is related to ongoing construction or stems from a separate issue within the ride has not been confirmed.
