Something huge is happening inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and longtime fans are starting to realize the park may never look the same again.
Over the past several months, construction walls, demolition work, and major land clearing have quietly taken over large sections of Lost Continent. What was once one of the most atmospheric areas in the park is now rapidly transforming into an active construction zone. Between the closure of Poseidon’s Fury and the ongoing demolition around the old Sinbad theater, Universal Orlando appears to be preparing for something far larger than a simple refurbishment.
And according to growing rumors, Pokémon could finally be on the way.

While Universal has not officially confirmed a Pokémon-themed land for Orlando, fans have increasingly connected the current construction activity to the company’s partnership with The Pokémon Company. Combined with permit filings and the scale of the work happening behind the walls, many visitors now believe Universal is laying the foundation for one of the resort’s biggest projects in years.
Lost Continent Is Being Torn Apart
For years, Lost Continent remained one of the quieter areas inside Islands of Adventure. Guests appreciated the detailed architecture, towering rockwork, and hidden pathways, but many simply used the land as a shortcut to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Now, the area feels completely different.
Poseidon’s Fury permanently closed in 2023, ending one of the park’s original attractions. Soon after, crews began visibly working around the former Sinbad stunt theater. Construction walls expanded throughout the land, and demolition activity slowly became impossible to ignore.
Today, guests can clearly see that large portions of Lost Continent are being gutted.
The transformation has fueled nonstop speculation surrounding the rumored “Pokémon: Lost Continent” project. If the rumors prove accurate, Universal would completely retheme much of the island into an immersive Pokémon land filled with attractions, restaurants, retail, and interactive experiences.
That would represent a historic move for Universal Orlando.
Since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, the resort has never fully replaced one of its original islands on this scale.
Universal’s Pokémon Partnership Sparked New Rumors
The speculation surrounding Pokémon exploded after Universal Destinations & Experiences announced a global partnership with The Pokémon Company.
Almost immediately, fans began theorizing where Pokémon could eventually appear inside the parks. Some believed Epic Universe would become the home for the franchise. Others expected smaller experiences at Universal Studios Florida.
Instead, attention quickly shifted toward Lost Continent.
The timing felt impossible to ignore. Construction intensified around the same period rumors surrounding Pokémon began gaining traction. Fans also noticed that Lost Continent offered something Universal desperately needs for a project this large: space.

Reports suggest the land spans roughly eight acres. That gives Universal significantly more room than smaller themed expansions like Springfield or the former KidZone area.
The location also makes strategic sense.
Lost Continent sits between Seuss Landing and Hogsmeade, making it one of the busiest walkways inside Islands of Adventure. A major Pokémon land in that space could instantly become one of the park’s biggest draws.
Rumored Attractions Sound Massive
Universal remains extremely secretive about any future plans involving Pokémon. Still, insiders continue pointing toward several possible attraction concepts.
One of the most discussed rumors involves a Pokémon Snap-inspired dark ride using an Omnimover-style system. Guests could potentially travel through detailed environments while spotting Pokémon throughout the experience.
Family roller coasters have also been heavily rumored.
That would align perfectly with Universal’s recent approach to major expansions. The company increasingly focuses on attractions that appeal to both younger guests and adults at the same time.
Dining and shopping are also expected to play a huge role if the project becomes reality.
Pokémon-themed restaurants, snack stands, and immersive retail could generate enormous demand. Universal already saw the power of themed merchandise through interactive Harry Potter wands and Nintendo Power-Up Bands. Many fans expect Pokémon would receive a similar treatment.

The End of an Era for Islands of Adventure
For longtime visitors, watching Lost Continent disappear feels bittersweet.
The land represented one of the final original concepts from Islands of Adventure’s opening era before major intellectual properties took over the park. While Harry Potter, Marvel, and Jurassic Park became massive successes, Lost Continent remained one of the last reminders of Universal’s original creative identity.
Now, much of that identity appears to be fading away.
Poseidon’s Fury is gone. The Sinbad theater appears to be nearing permanent extinction. Even the Mystic Fountain now sits surrounded by increasing construction activity.
At the same time, Universal Orlando is entering a completely different phase of growth.
Epic Universe officially opened in 2025 and dramatically expanded the resort’s footprint. Universal is now competing more aggressively than ever with Disney for multi-day vacation traffic. Adding Pokémon to Islands of Adventure could become another major step in that strategy.
And from a business perspective, few franchises make more sense.
Pokémon Could Become Universal’s Next Huge Hit
Pokémon remains one of the biggest entertainment brands in the world.
The franchise spans games, anime, films, collectibles, and merchandise that appeal to multiple generations simultaneously. That built-in audience gives Universal an enormous advantage if the company moves forward with a full-scale land.
A Pokémon expansion would likely attract families, gamers, anime fans, collectors, and nostalgic adults all at once.
That kind of cross-generational appeal is incredibly valuable for theme parks.
At the moment, Universal has not officially announced a Pokémon land for Orlando. Construction currently focuses on demolition and infrastructure preparation rather than visible themed construction.
Still, the scale of the project continues raising eyebrows throughout the theme park community.
And if the rumors are true, Islands of Adventure may soon undergo the biggest transformation in its history.
