Update: Dollywood Will Officially Turn Paying Guests Away in Nine Days

Anyone visiting Dollywood's resort hotels this summer may want to double-check what's in their wallet before arriving.

A major change is arriving at Dollywood's two onsite resorts this month, as both Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa and Dollywood's HeartSong Lodge & Resort prepare to eliminate cash payments beginning June 11.

The update marks the latest step in a broader shift taking place across Dolly Parton's Dollywood Parks & Resorts. Earlier this year, Dollywood's Splash Country adopted a similar approach when it opened for the 2026 season, and now the policy is making its way to the company's hotel operations.

For guests who have stayed at either resort in the past, the adjustment may come as a surprise. Cash has long been accepted throughout the properties at dining venues, shops, and other guest-facing locations. Starting June 11, purchases will instead require electronic payment methods such as credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and similar services.

The upcoming transition affects two very different resort experiences that have become important parts of the Dollywood vacation package.

DreamMore Resort first welcomed guests in 2015 and remains one of the destination's signature accommodations. The property offers more than 300 rooms and includes benefits such as transportation to the parks, early entry opportunities, dining options, and amenities designed for families.

HeartSong Lodge & Resort, which opened in 2023, expanded Dollywood's lodging footprint and introduced a resort experience inspired by the surrounding Smoky Mountain landscape. In a relatively short time, it has become a popular option for visitors seeking a nature-focused getaway near the theme park.

Importantly, guests spending the day inside Dollywood itself should not expect immediate changes. The theme park continues to accept cash at the time of writing, meaning the new policy currently applies only to the resort hotels and not to the park's broader operations.

Recognizing that some visitors still prefer carrying cash, Dollywood has introduced cash-to-card kiosks. These stations allow guests to convert cash into prepaid cards that can be used throughout the resorts and at other businesses that accept major card networks. Dollywood says there are no extra loading fees attached to the process.

The hospitality and entertainment sectors have increasingly embraced cashless systems in recent years. Supporters often point to quicker transactions, reduced wait times, streamlined operations, and fewer cash-management responsibilities for team members.

With summer crowds expected to grow throughout June and July, those efficiencies could help keep resort restaurants, stores, and service locations moving more smoothly during peak travel periods.

Guests with upcoming stays at DreamMore Resort or HeartSong Lodge should keep the June 11 implementation date in mind. Anyone planning to pay primarily in cash may want to make arrangements before traveling or use one of the new conversion kiosks upon arrival.

As the summer season begins in Tennessee, Dollywood's latest update is not centered on a new attraction or entertainment offering. Instead, it represents a change in how guests interact with the resort experience itself, as cash transactions are phased out at both of the destination's hotel properties.
