A refurbishment of the reflection pool near the Imagination! Pavilion at EPCOT has reached a new phase, and the thousands of coins that Walt Disney World Resort guests tossed into the water over the years are no longer there.
Coins Collected, Repainting Underway

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort construction crews have repainted approximately half of the reflection pool basin near the Imagination! Pavilion and the Land Pavilion at EPCOT. The faded, algae-stained surface, which had accumulated years of wear, has been refreshed to a dark beige.
The repainting followed several preparatory steps that played out this week. After the pool was drained in early June, Disney cast members removed all the coins that guests had tossed into the water over the years and repositioned the rocks in the basin into piles. With that groundwork complete, the painting work began.
Whether crews will apply a second coat before proceeding or move directly to replacing the rocks and refilling the pool hasn't been confirmed. Walt Disney World Resort hasn't addressed the project publicly; routine refurbishments of this nature rarely generate official statements from the resort unless they directly impact an attraction, restaurant, or merchandise location.
What Happens to the Coins

For guests wondering what became of their wishes, the answer is a good one. Both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort collect coins from wishing wells, reflection pools, ponds, and waterways throughout the Disney parks and donate them to children's charities. In Central Florida, those donations typically benefit Make-A-Wish and Give Kids The World Village. Disney hasn't disclosed the exact amount collected from the EPCOT reflection pool during this draining.
Whether Walt Disney World Resort plans to extend similar refurbishment work to other reflection pools and waterways around EPCOT has also not been confirmed.
