For many Harry Potter fans, a trip to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The attraction allows visitors to walk through the Great Hall, wander along Diagon Alley, board the Hogwarts Express, and admire the enormous Hogwarts castle model that helped bring the Wizarding World to life on screen.
Harry Potter-themed Attraction in Trouble
Unsurprisingly, the success of the studio tour has transformed Leavesden into a major destination for film tourism, with local businesses and accommodation providers increasingly catering to visiting witches and wizards.
But one Harry Potter-themed property has discovered that not everyone wants to live next door to a magical getaway.
According to reporting from the Watford Observer, Watford Borough Council has blocked plans for The Lumos House, a Harry Potter-inspired short-term rental located just a few minutes away from the studio tour.

The property had been operating as a holiday let without planning permission since November 2025, before the owners sought retrospective permission earlier this year.
Residents living nearby complained that the house generated excessive noise and disruption, describing behavior more commonly associated with parties than family holidays.
Council officers agreed. Their report concluded that the use of the property would negatively affect neighboring residents through “noise and disturbance” while also creating pressures on local housing stock.
Officials were particularly concerned by the property's layout, which squeezed seven beds into a four-bedroom home to accommodate as many as eight guests at a time.
The owners defended the business by arguing that it supported the area's growing tourism economy and enforced strict quiet hours between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. However, the council remained unconvinced, describing those restrictions as difficult to monitor and enforce.
Ironically, the house itself appears to have been every fan's dream, complete with themed decor, Harry Potter artwork, and references to the Ministry of Magic hidden throughout the property.
The refusal doesn't necessarily mark the end for The Lumos House, though. The decision notice leaves open the possibility of a revised application in the future, meaning the property's owners may yet attempt another spell to bring the attraction back to life.
