Update: Disney Cancels All Fireworks for Four Days

Disney has extended a temporary suspension of fireworks at one of its resorts.

The change comes as high temperatures continue to affect theme park operations in several locations. Outdoor entertainment, character appearances and nighttime shows have all been adjusted in recent weeks as Disney responds to heat warnings and local safety restrictions.

At Walt Disney World Resort, repeated heat advisories have brought heat index values of roughly 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Portable fans were recently introduced for cast members, while some outdoor entertainment was modified during the hottest periods of the day.

The Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade was among the affected offerings. Costumed characters were moved onto floats, while face characters continued to walk along the parade route.

Similar changes have also been made at Disneyland Paris, where a heatwave in June led to costumed characters being removed from Disney Stars on Parade. Some meet-and-greets were adjusted, and several outdoor attractions temporarily closed.

The resort is now preparing for four more days without fireworks after local officials extended an emergency order.

Fireworks Ban Extended Through July 19

The restriction applies to Seine-et-Marne, the French department where Disneyland Paris is located.

Authorities introduced the ban on July 10 after high temperatures increased the risk of fire across the region.

The order prohibits fireworks, pyrotechnic displays, bonfires and campfires in outdoor public and private spaces. Officials also suspended exceptional permits that would normally allow some fire-related events to take place.

The restriction was originally due to end on July 15. It has now been extended through July 19.

As a result, Disneyland Paris will continue to present Disney Tales of Magic and Disney Cascade of Lights without pyrotechnics.

Disney Tales of Magic is performed at Disneyland Park. The show is currently using drones (weather permitting) to retain an aerial element while fireworks remain suspended.

Disney Cascade of Lights is presented at Disney Adventure World, the park formerly known as Walt Disney Studios Park. Its pyrotechnic effects have also been removed.

The extension follows changes to Disneyland Paris’ Bastille Day celebration on July 14.

The resort had promoted a new show featuring Tinker Bell and Disney stories connected to France, including Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Ratatouille, and The Aristocats.

The show went ahead with drones and projections, but its planned fireworks were removed.

Disney had warned guests before the performance that changing conditions could lead to further alterations or a cancellation.

“We can’t wait for you to discover this new show, which will take you on a journey around the world with Tinker Bell through beloved Disney and Pixar classics. Emotion and magic will light up the sky with a unique drone display and enchanting projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle.”

Other public fireworks displays and celebrations across France were also changed or canceled because of the elevated fire risk.

Heat Continues to Affect Park Operations

Disneyland Paris has introduced several measures intended to help guests during periods of extreme heat.

These include shaded “refreshment zones,” additional misting stations and clearer information in the resort’s app about where guests can find cooling areas.

Despite those measures, some visitors have said the heat and related closures have had a significant impact on their trips.

As one guest noted, “This is a once in a life time trip for us. We scrimped and saved to be here. We've brought everything to keep us cool, taken breaks in the shade, put on brave faces and tried to push through it, but I'm honestly done. … Its obviously not the park's fault that it's hot, but it has made the trip miserable, and there is no way to make it better.”

Other guests have raised concerns about outdoor attraction closures during the hottest parts of the day.

A severe high-temperature warning was again in effect at Disneyland Paris on July 15. Cooler conditions were forecast for the weekend and early the following week.
