For generations of Universal Orlando visitors, the vacation experience has started before they ever scan a ticket or step onto an attraction. The towering entrance arches at Universal Studios Florida have served as a familiar welcome for decades, becoming one of the park's most recognizable sights.
Now, 36 years after Universal Studios Florida opened, that familiar entrance is getting a major new look.
Construction walls have appeared around portions of the Universal Studios Florida archway as Universal begins repainting the longtime landmark. The project follows other recent changes around the park's entrance, where older colors have been replaced with a brighter white-and-brown palette.

A viral edited photo making its way around social media offers a possible glimpse at how dramatically different the entrance could look once Universal finishes the project.
Universal Studios Florida Has Welcomed Guests Since 1990
Universal Studios Florida officially opened on June 7, 1990, beginning what would eventually become the sprawling Universal Orlando Resort guests know today.
The resort was obviously much different back then.
Islands of Adventure hadn't opened. CityWalk had yet to become the entertainment district guests know today. Volcano Bay was decades away, and Epic Universe wouldn't arrive until May 2025.
The entrance itself has evolved along the way.
The original 1990 entrance used a more symmetrical arrangement. As Universal Orlando expanded and the way guests approached the park changed, the entrance eventually took on the asymmetrical configuration familiar to modern visitors.
While the structure has evolved over the years, its warm sandstone-inspired colors have remained a familiar part of arriving at Universal Studios Florida.
Those colors are now on their way out.
Universal Is Repainting the Entrance Arches
Construction walls currently extend around sections of the entrance archway, although guests can still pass through the main and smaller arches.
The work follows a larger visual refresh around the entrance.
Universal recently repainted the entrance buildings, ticket booths, and exit areas. Those structures previously featured pink tones but now use white with brown trim. The arches are expected to receive a similar treatment.
That could make for a surprisingly dramatic transformation.
Theme park fans often think of major changes as demolished rides, new roller coasters, or entirely rebuilt lands. Sometimes, though, changing the colors of a structure that millions of people have seen for decades can make an area feel almost completely new.
And now fans have an idea of what that could mean here.
Viral Photo Imagines Universal's New Look
Theme Park Wire recently shared an edited image on X showing what the entrance could look like with the new color scheme.
“This is what the new arches at Universal Studios Florida will look like should they follow the new paint style of the entrance plaza!” the account wrote.
The wording there matters.

The image is not an official Universal Orlando concept rendering. It is an edited photo imagining how the existing arches could appear if Universal carries the surrounding white color palette onto the landmark.
Still, it provides an interesting before-and-after comparison.
Instead of the warmer appearance longtime guests know, the concept gives the entrance a brighter white finish that makes the familiar architecture look considerably different.
Universal Studios Florida Is Already in a Period of Change
The entrance project arrives during another transformative period for Universal Studios Florida.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, once one of the most visible pieces of the park's skyline, permanently closed in August 2025 after operating for 16 years. Its final day of operation was August 17, 2025.
Universal has continued making changes elsewhere while investing heavily in the future of its Orlando resort.
Epic Universe opened in May 2025, dramatically expanding Universal Orlando and giving guests another major theme park to visit.
Against that backdrop, refreshing the entrance to Universal Studios Florida feels like another way of bringing the original park into Universal's current era.
The Arches Aren't Being Demolished
Despite how dramatic the finished product may look, there's an important distinction.
Universal isn't currently tearing down the famous arches and building an entirely new entrance.
The construction walls are associated with a repainting project, and the existing archways remain accessible.
In other words, Universal is replacing the familiar look of its entrance rather than replacing the entire structure.
For longtime visitors, that may still feel significant.
Guests who visited Universal Studios Florida decades ago may now be bringing their children—or even grandchildren—through the same entrance. The colors surrounding those arches have become part of the visual memory of arriving at the park.
Soon, that first impression will look noticeably different.
The arches will remain, but after 36 years of Universal Studios Florida history, another familiar piece of the park is entering a new era.
