The countdown is on for one of Disneyland Resort's most photographed anniversary installations. Based on how quickly the disassembly has moved this week, the Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture may be fully gone well before the Disneyland70 celebration officially closes on August 9.
From Landmark to Construction Site
On July 23, WDWNT reported that the colorful Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture, which spent over a year as a centerpiece of the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, has now been completely hidden from view. The outlet shared a photo of the site's current state — nothing but teal-blue construction walls where the structure once stood. What had still been visible just days ago, including portions of the towers, roof elements, and stained-glass detailing, has since disappeared entirely behind the barriers as the disassembly continues.
The sculpture was one of the signature visual elements of the Disneyland70 anniversary celebration, featuring five towers each inspired by one of Disneyland Park's original lands — Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and Main Street, U.S.A. — along with intricate stained-glass work throughout the structure.
One element of the original design didn't make it to the finish line intact. A silhouette of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse holding hands was part of the initial installation, but Disneyland Resort replaced it partway through the celebration after viral social media posts noted that the shape of Walt Disney's hat gave the figure an unintended resemblance to President Donald Trump.
What's Still Running Before August 9
The removal of the castle sculpture is part of the natural wind-down of Disneyland70, but the celebration itself hasn't ended. Limited-time entertainment, exclusive merchandise, and anniversary-specific offerings continue at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park through August 9, 2026. Guests hoping to experience the final weeks of the 70th anniversary programming should act quickly — the closure date is approaching fast.
The Paint the Night parade and the Wondrous Journeys nighttime spectacular are sticking around a little longer than the rest of the festivities, with both extended through August 20, 2026. The official Disneyland Resort website and mobile app have the most current schedules for both Southern California Disney parks.
