A Disneyland cast member was filmed entering one of the park’s waterways during operating hours.
The Rivers of America runs through the western side of Disneyland Park, where it is used by the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes.
Although the waterway is designed to look natural, it is an artificial river surrounded by ride equipment, docks, and restricted operational areas. Guests and employees are not permitted to enter the water.
Cast Member Filmed in Rivers of America
The incident reportedly occurred on July 23 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.
Video shared on social media appears to show a male cast member without his shirt swimming in the Rivers of America before climbing back onto the shore.
According to TikTok account @PixieDustArchive, the employee threw his keys and walkie-talkie into the river before entering the water.

The cast member’s costume appears to identify him as a member of Disneyland’s custodial team, which is responsible for cleaning and maintaining guest areas throughout the theme park.
It is not clear why the employee entered the river or why he returned to land shortly afterward. Disney has not publicly commented on the incident or confirmed whether disciplinary action was taken.
Some viewers suggested that the employee could face consequences for entering a restricted area and discarding company equipment.
Others expressed concern for his welfare and pointed to the physical and emotional demands placed on Disneyland custodial cast members.
“As a former Disney custodian, I get it,” one TikTok user wrote.
“The literal shit I had to clean, outside in the heat all day, lifting heavy bags, with my coworkers who had failed every other assessment, with others who had multiple SH reports, I get it.”
“The amount of panic attacks I had on stage, the amount of times I nearly passed out, everything about that job was terrible. Hope this dudes doing well.”
Another commenter wrote, “I honestly feel pretty bad, custodial are the HARDEST working humans at the park and this guy must’ve just had a final breakdown and just jumped in,
“hope he gets better and better opportunities in the future, these are really hard times the parks is in.”
There is currently no public information about the cast member’s condition or employment status.
Previous Incidents on the River
The Rivers of America has been the site of several serious incidents during Disneyland’s history.
In 1973, an 18-year-old guest drowned while attempting to carry his younger brother across the water from Tom Sawyer Island.
The brothers had reportedly hidden on the island after the park closed. The 10-year-old survived by remaining afloat until a Disneyland ride operator reached him.
Another fatal incident occurred during Disneyland’s Grad Nite event in 1983.
An 18-year-old and a friend entered a restricted area, took an emergency rubber boat and attempted to cross the river. Both had reportedly been drinking.
The teenager drowned during the crossing. Lawsuits later filed against Disney and the organizer of the school trip were unsuccessful.
In 1998, an accident involving the Sailing Ship Columbia killed one guest and injured another guest and a cast member.
The ship was docking on Christmas Eve when a metal cleat tore free and struck the three people.
Investigators later criticized the training provided to the employee responsible for securing the vessel.
Reports of people entering Disney waterways have not been limited to Disneyland Resort.
Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America also saw several incidents involving guests entering the water before the Florida version permanently closed in 2025.
Disney removed the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom to make way for a new Cars-themed area in Frontierland.
Disneyland’s version remains open, with the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes continuing to operate on the waterway.
