Updated projections suggest Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on pace to deliver the largest domestic opening weekend of 2026, with industry watchers now forecasting a debut well beyond earlier estimates.

According to revised figures from Boxoffice Pro, the Sony/Marvel release is tracking for a domestic opening in the range of $230 million to $250 million, a substantial increase from previous projections of $180 million to $190 million. Should that forecast prove accurate, the film would surpass Toy Story 5 (2026), which currently holds the year's top domestic opening, by a considerable margin ahead of its July 31, 2026, release.
The figure would also place Brand New Day second on the list of highest-grossing domestic openings in the Spider-Man franchise, behind only Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which opened to $260.1 million in 2021 — a benchmark few analysts expected this installment to approach, given its more contained, character-driven premise relative to the multiverse-spanning scale of its predecessor.
Global tracking is similarly aggressive. Estimates place worldwide opening-weekend grosses near $800 million, which would rank as the second-highest global opening weekend on record, displacing Avengers: Infinity War (2018) from that position. Infinity War opened to just over $678 million in 2018, a mark later eclipsed by Avengers: Endgame (2019), which debuted to $1.223 billion the following year.
That Brand New Day is now tracking within range of Marvel's largest ensemble openings underscores the continued commercial strength of the Spider-Man property, even as the film pivots away from the studio's crossover-driven format.

Industry analysts attribute the upward revision to several converging factors, including sustained audience interest in Peter Parker's fate following the conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), in which Doctor Strange's spell erased the character from the memories of those closest to him, and continued strength for star Tom Holland, whose public profile has remained prominent alongside real-life partner Zendaya.
Early presale performance has also factored into the revised tracking. The release follows closely on the commercial success of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (2026), which also stars Holland and Zendaya as Telemachus and Athena, respectively, positioning the two films to anchor the industry's summer-to-fall transition.
Brand New Day arrives as Marvel Studios continues to reposition its franchise output following a mixed critical and commercial reception to portions of Phases Four and Five, with the studio's broader strategy now centered on Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). Notably, Holland's Spider-Man reportedly does not appear in Doomsday, with Brand New Day instead functioning as a self-contained narrative set several years after the events of No Way Home.

Holland has described the film as a deliberate reset for the character. “I think the movie feels, tonally, like a fresh start. What Peter Parker is going through post Spider-Man: No Way Home is really profound and unique to the superhero genre,” he said, framing the story as one centered on the character's transition into adulthood: “It's a movie about when young people really find their identity and become adults,” he said. “Having been through that as a person, it really gave me a great insight into how to bring Peter Parker to life with this new chapter that he's embarking on.”
In remarks to Collider following a screening of the completed film, Holland praised director Destin Daniel Cretton's handling of the material. “To be perfectly honest with you, it is above and beyond what I thought it was going to be,” Holland said. “I think Destin is a filmmaker with a level of talent that you rarely come by.” He added: “I think that he has found a way to grow this franchise and to make the movie feel bigger, and to make the action feel more dangerous, and to make the stakes feel higher without sacrificing the emotion and the heart of what makes these characters tick.”

The film's cast expansion includes Jon Bernthal's first appearance as Frank Castle/The Punisher within an MCU feature, alongside Mark Ruffalo's returning role as Bruce Banner/Hulk. The involvement of Sadie Sink remains officially unconfirmed by the studio, though her character was reportedly disclosed inadvertently by musician Steve Lacy, who contributed a track to the film's soundtrack, during comments made ahead of the film's Los Angeles premiere.
As is standard for projects at this stage, industry trackers caution that estimates remain subject to change as the release date approaches. Still, with the film opening in under two weeks, current data points to Spider-Man: Brand New Day emerging as one of the defining box office stories of the year, both for the Spider-Man franchise specifically and for the broader Marvel slate as it moves toward its next crossover events.
