Sixteen years after Rapunzel first returned home, Disney is giving the moment a slight rewrite.
The live-action Tangled remake is now filming in Girona, Spain, where public production has revealed several scenes inspired by the 2010 animated movie.
Disney appears to be keeping the original film’s central story intact. Rapunzel still leaves her tower, travels with Flynn Rider, discovers the truth about her identity, and returns to the kingdom of Corona.
However, footage from the set suggests one of the animated movie’s final scenes will play out differently.
Rapunzel Takes Control of the Final Reunion
Near the end of the original Tangled, Rapunzel reunites with the King and Queen after escaping Mother Gothel.
Her parents pull their missing daughter into an embrace. Flynn Rider then joins the family moment, although Rapunzel does not formally introduce him to the royal couple.
The live-action version appears to change that detail.

Filming footage reportedly shows Rapunzel approaching her parents before introducing Flynn herself. The sequence gives Rapunzel a more active role in bringing the thief-turned-hero into her family.
The revision does not seem to change the wider outcome of the film. Rapunzel still returns to Corona, reunites with the King and Queen, and appears alongside Flynn Rider. The difference is in how Flynn becomes part of the royal reunion.
It is a small rewrite, but one that separates the new film’s ending from the animated Tangled released in 2010. The change also fits Disney’s recent habit of giving its live-action princesses more control over their stories.
The 2019 version of Aladdin expanded Jasmine’s political ambitions, while Beauty and the Beast presented Belle as an inventor. Rapunzel’s new introduction may make more subtle changes.
Rather than changing her destination, Disney appears to be changing how she arrives there.
Disney Rebuilds the Kingdom of Corona
The ending is one of several familiar Tangled scenes spotted during filming in Spain.
Girona’s medieval architecture has been transformed into the kingdom of Corona, complete with market streets, royal decorations, costumes, and crowds of background performers.
Set footage has shown Teagan Croft’s Rapunzel moving through the kingdom with her long golden hair.

That scene recreates part of Rapunzel’s first visit to Corona, when children braid flowers into her hair before the kingdom’s lantern celebration.
Other footage has apparently shown Flynn Rider stealing the lost princess’s crown, along with scenes filmed near the end of the story.
Croft stars as Rapunzel opposite Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn will play Mother Gothel, the woman who kidnaps Rapunzel and raises her inside a hidden tower.
Caitriona Balfe has been identified as the Queen of Corona. Diego Luna has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role, prompting speculation about whether he could portray Rapunzel’s father.
Michael Gracey is directing the live-action Disney remake. His previous films include The Greatest Showman (2017).
Disney first announced the new Tangled adaptation in December 2024.

Costumes seen during production remain close to the animated movie. Rapunzel wears a purple dress, while Flynn’s outfit includes several recognizable elements from his original design.
Not every visual detail has survived unchanged.
Corona’s royal color scheme appears to use more blue than the purple associated with the animated kingdom. Rapunzel’s short brown hairstyle also seems slightly different after Flynn cuts her magical hair.
Disney has repeatedly faced pressure to find the right balance with its live-action remakes.
Mulan (2020) removed Mushu, Li Shang, and the original film’s songs. Meanwhile, Snow White (2025) made larger changes to its romance and supporting characters, as well as scrapping iconic songs such as Someday My Prince Will Come.
At the other end of the scale, The Lion King (2019) stayed extremely close to its animated predecessor. That approach also attracted criticism from viewers who questioned the point of recreating the same movie.
The live-action Tangled appears to fall somewhere between those extremes.
