This geographical overlap has sparked intense speculation. Thematically, the Haunted Mansion has always been a logistical puzzle for Imagineering. Some fans theorize that the solution is to use the Haunted Mansion as a thematic bridge. By altering the mansion's exterior to feel less like an eccentric Hudson River Valley manor and more like an ominous entryway, Disney could effectively “rezone” the ride to serve as the opening act for Villains Land.

The Fate of Liberty Square
If Disney does legally “rezone” the Haunted Mansion into Villains Land, the ripple effects would be catastrophic for Liberty Square.
Since 1971, Liberty Square has been the smallest land in the Magic Kingdom. It is currently losing the Liberty Belle Riverboat and the Rivers of America to make way for the Cars expansion.
