Disney may be preparing to send another corner of its theme park empire to a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars already has a substantial presence across Disney’s global resorts. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge operates at Disneyland Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, while Star Tours – The Adventures Continue appears at four parks worldwide.
Other resorts have received smaller additions rather than full lands. Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland both operate Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, with the French version occupying Discoveryland’s signature indoor roller coaster.
Now, fresh rumors suggest that Disneyland Paris could receive Disney’s third major Star Wars land. The project would reportedly reshape part of Discoveryland, replacing several existing attractions while adding rides already found at the American resorts.
Nothing has been confirmed by Disney. However, overlapping reports have outlined a possible plan involving Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, a Mandalorian attraction, and several potentially controversial rethemes.
Disney Reportedly Weighs Major Discoveryland Changes
Autopia is among the attractions most frequently named for removal. The outdoor driving ride occupies a large section of Discoveryland and has already disappeared from Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland.
Its future also carries practical complications. Autopia has traditionally depended on corporate sponsorship, meaning Disney may need to secure another commercial partner while also funding an expensive conversion of its existing fleet to electric vehicles.
Weather presents another issue. As an uncovered attraction, Autopia becomes considerably less appealing during the rain and colder conditions regularly experienced at Disneyland Paris, limiting its usefulness compared with an indoor attraction operating throughout the year.
The leading rumor is that Autopia’s site could be used for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. The ambitious dark ride combines trackless vehicles, large physical sets, multiple preshow sequences, live cast member performances, and a battle between the Resistance and the First Order.
Les Mystères du Nautilus may also face changes. The walkthrough attraction opened in 1994 and takes guests inside Captain Nemo’s submarine from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, complete with recreated rooms and an encounter with a giant squid.
Retheming the attraction would likely divide longtime Disneyland Paris fans. The Nautilus remains one of the clearest surviving examples of Discoveryland’s original Jules Verne-inspired identity, which distinguished the area from the more futuristic Tomorrowland found at other Disney resorts.
Space Mountain could undergo a different kind of transformation. Rather than receiving more Star Wars material, reports suggest Disney may finally remove the Hyperspace Mountain overlay and restore the attraction’s original retro-futuristic theme.
The coaster debuted as Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune, drawing inspiration from Jules Verne’s From the Earth to the Moon. Restoring that concept would preserve a major piece of Discoveryland’s identity while allowing Disney to develop Star Wars elsewhere in the area.
Elsewhere, Orbitron could be rethemed to fit the proposed land. Disney is also reportedly considering whether to retain, replace, or transform Discoveryland Theatre, which currently houses Mickey’s PhilharMagic.
That uncertainty suggests the project may not have reached its final form. The theater could remain a traditional Disney venue, receive a Star Wars production, or be cleared for another attraction depending on the boundaries of the land.
New Rides Could Expand Beyond Galaxy’s Edge
One of the most persistent rumors involves a Mandalorian and Grogu roller coaster behind Space Mountain. Reports of a Star Wars attraction in this backstage area have circulated for several years, although Disney has never publicly acknowledged the concept.
The commercial performance of The Mandalorian and Grogu may complicate those discussions. Despite bringing Pedro Pascal’s character from Disney+ to theaters, the movie earned $345 million worldwide, potentially giving Disney reason to reconsider the scale or timing of a dedicated attraction.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is also said to remain under consideration. A Paris version could be constructed in the backstage area behind Discoveryland, providing another major ride without requiring Disney to duplicate the exact footprint of the American Galaxy’s Edge lands.
It remains unclear which mission the attraction would use. Disneyland and Walt Disney World recently introduced Mandalorian content, but Walt Disney Imagineering could create a separate experience designed specifically for Disneyland Paris.
The format of the land is equally uncertain. Disney could build another version of Galaxy’s Edge, complete with Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, or treat the Star Wars additions as a smaller district within Discoveryland.
That second approach could resemble Stark Expo at Hong Kong Disneyland, where Marvel attractions exist as a distinct section of Tomorrowland without requiring the entire area to abandon its broader identity.
Disney would also need to decide which Star Wars era the land represents. Galaxy’s Edge originally maintained a strict sequel-trilogy timeline centered on Rey, Kylo Ren, the Resistance, and the First Order.
Disneyland relaxed those restrictions in April 2026, introducing Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo alongside newer characters. That change could give Imagineers more freedom to mix generations of Star Wars stories in Paris.
A newly designed land could also address the common criticism of the original Galaxy’s Edge. Rather than returning exclusively to Batuu, Disneyland Paris could incorporate recognizable locations from the films, including Tatooine, Coruscant, Jakku, or another established planet.
Disney has considered a Paris Star Wars land before. In February 2018, the company announced a €2 billion expansion of Walt Disney Studios Park, now Disney Adventure World, with new areas based on Marvel, Frozen, and Star Wars surrounding a central lake.
Disney never detailed the Star Wars attractions or officially named the area Galaxy’s Edge. References to the franchise later vanished from updated concept art, although the company never issued a standalone announcement confirming that the project had been canceled.
The replacement became clear in August 2024, when Disney announced a Lion King land for Disney Adventure World. That project will include dining, shopping, character encounters, and a water attraction beneath a large recreation of Pride Rock.
The rumored Discoveryland plan would therefore revive the idea of a major Star Wars expansion at Disneyland Paris, but in a different park and with a potentially broader mixture of attractions.
Disney has not confirmed any of the reported changes. More information may arrive during D23 in Anaheim, California, which runs from August 14 to 16.
The Disney parks presentation is scheduled for August 15 at 7 p.m. PDT and will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. Should Disneyland Paris finally receive its long-rumored Star Wars expansion, that event would provide Disney with its biggest stage for announcing it.
