Disneyland Park guests with September vacation plans need to know about two attraction closures that will take effect on the same day.
Two Closures, One Date
Disneyland Resort updated its official website on August 6 to reflect that both Mad Tea Party and Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island will be unavailable beginning Monday, September 14, 2026. The Southern California vacation destination's operational calendar currently runs through September 17, and neither attraction has operating hours listed beyond the September 14 closure date — leaving the duration of both shutdowns unconfirmed for now.
Disneyland Resort has not shared any information about what the closures involve or what guests should expect when either attraction eventually reopens. Standard refurbishment activity is the most logical assumption in the absence of any announcement, and most short-term closures at Disneyland Park produce no visible changes when the attraction returns.
A Second Tom Sawyer Island Closure
While both shutdowns deserve attention, the closure of the Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island carries a layer of meaning that the Mad Tea Party closure does not. Walt Disney World Resort permanently closed the Magic Kingdom Park version of Tom Sawyer Island in 2025 — clearing the land for Piston Peak National Park, the Cars (2006)-inspired Frontierland expansion currently under construction. That closure made Disneyland Park's Pirate's Lair the only version of Tom Sawyer Island currently operating at any Disney park in the United States.
The September closure is also the second time this year Pirate's Lair has gone offline this year — the attraction returned from an April and May refurbishment not long ago, making back-to-back closures an eyebrow-raising pattern even if each individual shutdown seems routine on its own.
Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland
The Mad Tea Party closure on September 14 is the more straightforward of the two announcements. The iconic spinning teacups attraction in Fantasyland has no publicly disclosed reason for its upcoming downtime, and Disneyland Resort hasn't provided any hints about whether anything will change during the closure period.
