Epic Universe visitors are beginning to get a clearer picture of what attraction availability will look like in 2027, and Universal has now placed one ride on the refurbishment calendar.
This time, the affected attraction is Fyre Drill.
Located in How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, Fyre Drill is scheduled to close January 25, 2027. Universal currently has the attraction listed as unavailable through February 4.
That creates a short stretch in which guests won't have access to the interactive water ride. It may not completely change someone's Epic Universe vacation, but it's still something families should know before arriving.
And unlike a major coaster closure, Universal may have picked one of the least disruptive times of the year to get the work done.
Why Fyre Drill Is Different From Other Epic Universe Rides
There's nothing quite like Fyre Drill elsewhere in Epic Universe.
The attraction sends guests aboard boats equipped with water cannons as Ruffnut and Tuffnut teach riders about fighting fires around Berk.
Naturally, the presence of dragons makes that a pretty useful lesson.
Guests can shoot water toward targets and other boats, making the attraction as much about interacting with other riders as it is about moving through a traditional ride experience.
It's also Epic Universe's only water ride.
That makes Fyre Drill particularly appealing when temperatures climb. A little water can be a welcome relief during a hot afternoon in Orlando, especially after spending hours walking around the park.
During the winter, however, getting soaked may not sound nearly as appealing.
That's part of what makes the January 25 through February 4 refurbishment window noteworthy. Instead of taking Fyre Drill away during the hottest part of the year, Universal is scheduling the work during the winter.
The attraction experienced similar downtime during the previous winter as well.
Refurbishments Are Becoming Part of Epic Universe
Epic Universe opened in May 2025, so we're reaching the point where regular attraction maintenance shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
Opening a brand-new theme park doesn't mean its rides can operate indefinitely without scheduled work.
These attractions run throughout the day while handling thousands of guests. Add Florida heat, rain, humidity, and daily wear into the equation, and maintenance becomes an unavoidable part of keeping everything operating.
Fyre Drill won't even be the first Isle of Berk experience to receive scheduled downtime.
The Untrainable Dragon is currently expected to close from September 15 through September 20, 2026.
Those dates don't overlap with Fyre Drill's refurbishment, so Universal isn't currently planning to take both experiences away from guests simultaneously.
Still, the two closures show why checking the operating calendar is becoming increasingly important for Epic Universe visitors.
A Short Closure Could Still Affect Your Trip
A refurbishment lasting less than two weeks sounds minor until your vacation happens to fall directly inside those dates.
That's especially true for visitors who may only get one day at Epic Universe.
With Fyre Drill unavailable, guests won't have another water ride elsewhere in the park to use as a replacement. Families who enjoy interactive attractions will also lose one of the more playful experiences inside How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk.
Fortunately, this isn't currently shaping up to be an extended closure.
Fyre Drill is expected to remain unavailable from January 25 through February 4, 2027. For guests visiting during that window, it's worth building an Epic Universe itinerary without the attraction.
Everyone visiting around those dates should continue checking Universal's calendar as their vacation gets closer.
Epic Universe may be relatively new, but attraction refurbishments are already becoming part of the planning process.
And in early 2027, Fyre Drill will be the ride guests need to leave off their list.
