The D23 Expo in Anaheim delivered some of the most electrifying Disney Parks news in years. During the “Horizons” showcase, Disney Experience leadership officially greenlit four monumental projects that theme park purists have been demanding for decades: a complete overhaul of Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, the return of Dreamfinder to EPCOT, a fix for Expedition Everest’s broken Yeti, and a modern refresh for Spaceship Earth.

While the announcement of these dream projects brought the house down, a closer look reveals an intriguing catch. Disney confirmed that all four projects are officially “happening,” but shared almost no technical details, scopes of work, or operational timelines.
Here is why these four massive announcements have left fans thrilled, yet completely in the dark.
1. Tomorrowland Reimagined at Disneyland
Disneyland fans have long argued that Tomorrowland feels stuck in the past. Disney executives finally validated those feelings when Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino admitted the land feels “tired” and lacks a true vision for tomorrow. To fix this, Disney announced a massive reimagining aimed at restoring the land's original 1955 spirit of optimism, innovation, and open space.

However, the specifics were kept strictly under wraps. Imagineering Creative Producer Emily O'Brien noted that teams are “literally just getting started.” Disney didn't reveal any new ride concepts, budgets, or construction schedules, leaving fans to wonder whether the area will close all at once or undergo a multi-year phased update.
2. Dreamfinder and Figment Reunite at EPCOT
For EPCOT purists, nothing hits harder than the legacy of Journey Into Imagination. In a massive fan-service moment, Disney revealed that the original creator character, Dreamfinder, is officially returning to join Figment on a brand-new adventure inside the pavilion.
Yet beyond confirming the reunion, Disney withheld every major detail. There was no announcement regarding a new track layout, show scenes, or technological upgrades. Furthermore, Disney did not indicate when the current, heavily criticized version of the ride will close, or when guests can expect the new attraction to debut.
3. Fixing the ‘Disco Yeti' at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Since 2007, the 25-foot Audio-Animatronic Yeti inside Expedition Everest has remained locked in a static position, illuminated by strobe lights—earning it the nickname “Disco Yeti”—after its intense movements threatened the ride's concrete superstructure. At D23, Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum interrupted host Neil Patrick Harris to deliver a shocker: Imagineering is officially fixing the Yeti.

The crowd erupted as Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” played over the loudspeakers, signaling the end of the Disco Yeti era. However, Disney offered zero explanation of how they plan to execute the repair. Historically, fixing the massive figure meant either opening up the mountain structure or completely dismantling the animatronic internally. Yet, Disney shared no scope of work, nor did they outline the extended ride closure that will inevitably be required.
4. Spaceship Earth's Overhaul at EPCOT
EPCOT’s iconic 180-foot geodesic sphere is preparing for its first narrative overhaul in nearly two decades. Imagineer Ali Rubinstein and guest presenter Mark Rober announced that Spaceship Earth will receive a modern update, pivoting the ride's core theme from the history of human communication to the broader concept of “human connection.”

While the modern story concept sounds promising, Disney omitted all the operational details. There were no reveals regarding a new celebrity narrator, no breakdown of which historic scenes will be replaced, and no timeline for when the attraction will close for refurbishment.
Patience Required for Disney's Future
While it is thrilling to know these four legendary projects are officially in Disney's pipeline, the total absence of dates, budgets, and scopes of work indicates they are still in their earliest conceptual stages. Disney has promised a bright future, but fans will need plenty of patience before seeing these dreams turn into reality.
