Something is happening at the front of Universal Studios Florida, and guests can't exactly miss it.
Large sections of the park's famous entrance archways have disappeared behind scrim, temporarily changing one of Universal Orlando's most recognizable views.
Universal hasn't revealed exactly what crews are preparing behind the coverings. But there's one major reason the timing makes sense: Halloween Horror Nights begins August 28.
With only days remaining before the first event night, the entrance could be receiving its Halloween transformation.
Scrim Takes Over the Universal Studios Florida Entrance
The Universal Studios Florida archways have served as the gateway to the park since it opened in 1990.
Millions of guests have passed beneath them over the last 36 years, making the structure an important part of the park's visual identity.
This week, though, the view is considerably different.
Scrim now blocks large portions of the entrance, with coverings positioned around the prominent central area and tallest portion of the structure.

Universal has not announced a permanent redesign or replacement for the archways. Given the timing, the work could instead be connected to Universal's biggest Halloween event.
Universal Prepares for Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights returns August 28 and runs from 6:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. on select nights.
Universal traditionally transforms parts of Universal Studios Florida as the event approaches, and that includes adding Halloween Horror Nights branding around the entrance.
Medallions are one possibility for what's being installed behind the scrim.
The amount of covering around the central portion of the entrance also leaves open the possibility that Universal could have something more planned. Until the scrim comes down, though, that remains unconfirmed.
Fortunately, fans shouldn't have to wait very long.
10 Haunted Houses Await Guests
Once Halloween Horror Nights begins, visitors will have 10 haunted houses to experience.
Five are based on established properties: Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, Stranger Things 5, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, and Sinners.
Universal's creative teams have also developed five original houses for the event.
Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control brings two familiar Halloween Horror Nights icons together, while H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular delivers a twisted take on a holiday television special.
Madlands: Caged Cannibals, Cybergoria, and INVASION: Alien Abduction complete the original lineup.
That gives Universal a substantial collection of horror experiences waiting beyond the front gates.
First, however, Universal has to finish whatever it's doing to those gates.
The familiar entrance may be hidden behind scrim today, but August 28 is quickly approaching. Once those coverings come down, guests should finally get a look at how Universal Studios Florida will welcome Halloween Horror Nights visitors this year.
