One of Universal Studios Florida's newest empty spaces won't remain completely unused.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged permanently closed in August, bringing an end to an attraction that had operated in the park's San Francisco section since 2018.
Universal still hasn't revealed what will eventually take over the attraction itself. However, the company has now confirmed a new purpose for the former ride's retail space.
Starting September 3, the UOAP x UOTM discount store will relocate to the former Custom Gear Store in San Francisco.
The shop previously operated out of the Brown Derby. Its new home, however, puts it inside the area formerly connected to Fast & Furious: Supercharged.
It's a relatively small change compared to whatever Universal eventually does with the full attraction building, but it gives guests the first clear look at how part of the closed location will be used moving forward.
Discount Store Moves Into San Francisco
Universal's discount store has become a popular stop for Annual Passholders and Team Members looking for marked-down merchandise from around Universal Orlando Resort.
The former Custom Gear location provides more room than the Brown Derby space and already functioned as a retail location before Supercharged closed.
That makes the transition relatively straightforward.
It also means Universal doesn't have to leave every guest-facing part of the Fast & Furious property dormant while decisions about its long-term future play out.
And those decisions could take some time.
Universal Hasn't Announced a New Ride
Despite the new retail use, Universal has not confirmed a replacement attraction for Fast & Furious: Supercharged.
The ride officially closed after August 16, several months earlier than initially expected.
Since then, speculation has centered on what Universal could do with such a large piece of property inside an existing theme park.
Back to the Future (1985) has been mentioned as one possibility, which would mark a major return for a franchise once represented by its own Universal Studios Florida attraction.
Ghostbusters (1984) and Twisters (2024) have also appeared in discussions surrounding the location.
One particularly interesting rumor involves Universal creating a flex space. Rather than building an attraction intended to remain unchanged for decades, the concept could theoretically allow Universal to swap experiences or intellectual properties over time.
However, Universal has confirmed none of these rumored concepts.
The Bigger Replacement Remains a Mystery
The relocation of the discount store may actually suggest that Universal isn't preparing to overhaul every part of the Fast & Furious property right away.
If major demolition or redevelopment were imminent, moving an operating merchandise location into the former attraction's exit area would be a curious decision.
Instead, the move could give Universal a useful interim solution while larger plans develop behind the scenes.
For guests, that means the former Fast & Furious location is entering something of a transitional period.
The party buses are gone, and Supercharged won't reopen.
But Universal isn't leaving every part of its former home empty, either.
Starting September 3, the UOAP x UOTM discount store will officially give part of the closed attraction a new purpose while everyone waits to learn what Universal has planned for the rest of it.
