After Changing the MCU, New ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Release Reportedly Revealed

Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) has secured its place among cinema's most commercially significant releases, surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time.

The fourth installment in Sony and Marvel Studios' Tom Holland-led franchise has enjoyed a remarkable run since its late-July release, crossing the $1 billion and $2 billion marks in short order, overtaking Avengers: Endgame (2019) on the domestic ledger, and recently passing James Cameron's Titanic (1997) to claim fourth place globally. That distinction proved temporary. With a worldwide gross now reported at $2.337 billion, the film has edged past Avatar: The Way of Water‘s $2.334 billion total to claim sole possession of third place.

Only two titles remain ahead of it: 2019's Avengers: Endgame, at $2.797 billion, and 2009's Avatar, at $2.923 billion. Whether Spider-Man: Brand New Day can close that remaining distance is an open question, though its performance to date suggests the possibility shouldn't be dismissed.

The achievement represents a significant vote of confidence in the character's continued commercial viability for both studios. The film's ensemble includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Zendaya as MJ, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

Home Entertainment Rollout Set for November

According to a report from the HD Report, physical media for Spider-Man: Brand New Day — spanning 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD formats — will reach retailers on November 17, 2026. A digital release is anticipated ahead of that date; based on Sony's established release patterns, a window between October 6 and October 20 appears likely.

Collector-oriented packaging will include a Limited Edition SteelBook and a Collector's Edition featuring a SteelBook alongside a custom comic book, a relic card, and a magnetic lenticular cover. Standard editions across 4K Blu-ray/Digital, Blu-ray/Digital, and DVD will also be made available.

A Banner Year for Holland

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day coincides with another strong performance from Holland this year: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (2026), currently in theaters, has earned $1.557 billion worldwide, a result that similarly benefits co-stars Zendaya and Bernthal. Taken together, the two releases place Holland among the year's most commercially prominent film actors.

That standing may face pressure before the year's end. The Russo Brothers' Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three (2026) are both scheduled to open on December 18, and either has the potential to reshape the all-time box office rankings once more.

For the moment, however, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stands as one of the defining box office narratives of 2026, with its ascent up the all-time charts continuing unabated.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
