Stephen Cummings left Universal Orlando Resort in 2023.
He just walked back in with a bigger title than he had when he left.
Loews Hotels & Co has promoted Cummings to senior vice president of operations for Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando Resort, putting him in command of all 11 hotels on the property. Every resort. Every restaurant. Every front desk. Roughly the entire hotel operation at one of the busiest vacation destinations on the planet.
Not bad for a guy who started out cooking.
The Comeback
Cummings did five years in Orlando, from 2018 to 2023, and he was not sitting quietly in a back office. He led the opening teams for Universal Aventura Hotel and Universal Endless Summer Resort, Dockside Inn and Suites. Two hotels. Two very different price points. Both of them are still packed.
Then he left for Texas.
He spent his most recent stretch as complex managing director for Loews Arlington Hotel & Convention Center and Live! By Loews in Arlington, running both properties at once. Loews says the hotels posted record-setting performance under him, plus high guest satisfaction and strong team member recognition.
Translation: he made money, and people liked working for him. That combination gets you promoted.
From The Kitchen To The Top Floor
Here is the detail nobody expects from a hotel executive bio.
Cummings did not climb the usual ladder. He came up in the culinary world, working as an executive chef and executive sous chef for Renaissance, Ritz-Carlton, and St. Regis before he ever ran a hotel.
Ritz-Carlton. St. Regis. These are not casual kitchens. These are the rooms where a plate goes back if the garnish is off.
From there, he moved into leadership at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, and the Don CeSar, the famous pink hotel on St. Pete Beach.
Nearly four decades in hospitality. A huge chunk of it was spent in restaurants.
Now he is running the food and beverage operation at a resort with Mediterranean, Pan-Asian, and Italian menus, serving thousands of hungry theme park guests coming off 12-hour days. Somebody at Loews clearly did the math on that.
What He Is Walking Into
The job is enormous, and the timing makes it bigger.
Universal Orlando Resort's hotel portfolio exploded in 2025. Three properties opened in a single year: Universal Stella Nova Resort, Universal Terra Luna Resort, and Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a Loews Hotel, which sits directly at the entrance to Epic Universe.
Thousands of rooms added. A brand new theme park opened next door. The whole destination was reshaped in about 12 months.
Opening those hotels was the loud part. Running them profitably once the grand opening confetti gets swept up is the part that quietly makes or breaks a resort, and that is exactly the phase Cummings inherits on day one.
What The Bosses Are Saying
Loews Hotels & Co Chief Operating Officer Dan Flannery praised Cummings for the two Orlando hotel openings, calling them milestone moments for the partnership and describing him as “a passionate culture carrier.”
Cummings said he is honored to be back in Orlando and pointed to the momentum already building across the region, adding that he plans to focus on empowering teams and delivering strong guest experiences.
No drama. No shade. Just a guy who clearly wanted to come home.

For guests booking a trip next month, nothing.
For the next few years, plenty. Staffing, service standards, dining, pricing strategy, and how 11 very different hotels are run every single day now flow through one person. And that person already knows where every problem in this resort hides, because he was here when half of it opened.
Universal Orlando Resort's hotels just got a new boss.
He is not new.
