Universal Orlando Resort has more theme parks than ever, but guests visiting this September won't necessarily have more time to enjoy them.
Universal has confirmed shortened operating hours across all three of its major theme parks this month. While Halloween Horror Nights explains some of the changes at Universal Studios Florida, the reduced hours don't stop there.
Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe are also closing relatively early throughout September, creating some surprisingly short park days for vacationers.
Universal Studios Florida Starts the Closures
The most predictable cuts are happening at Universal Studios Florida.
Halloween Horror Nights is now underway on select evenings, requiring Universal to transition the park from normal daytime operations into its separately ticketed Halloween event.
On those nights, Universal Studios Florida closes to regular daytime guests at 5:00 p.m. Anyone without Halloween Horror Nights admission must leave rather than simply staying inside for the nighttime event.
That's been standard procedure during Halloween Horror Nights season.
However, Universal's other parks aren't necessarily giving those guests a late-night alternative.
Islands of Adventure Has Some Surprisingly Short Days
Islands of Adventure is scheduled to close at 8:00 p.m. throughout much of September.
A couple of dates feature even earlier 7:00 p.m. closings.
The biggest reduction arrives September 23, when Islands of Adventure is scheduled to close at just 6:00 p.m.
That's particularly noticeable during Halloween Horror Nights season. Guests leaving Universal Studios Florida at 5:00 p.m. may naturally consider heading next door, but an early Islands of Adventure closing leaves little time to extend the evening.
The shorter schedule also limits opportunities to experience attractions such as Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure after dark.
Epic Universe Is Closing Early, Too
Epic Universe isn't immune from the reduced hours.
Universal's newest theme park, which opened in May 2025, is scheduled to close at 8:00 p.m. on most September nights.
That may disappoint visitors hoping to spend hours exploring Epic Universe after sunset. Lighting, fountains, portals and other visual elements make nighttime a significant part of the park's atmosphere.
An 8:00 p.m. closing leaves guests with a relatively limited nighttime window.
Check the Calendar Before Your Universal Trip
Operating hours can always change, so guests should check Universal's calendar as their vacation approaches.
Still, September visitors shouldn't automatically expect late evenings.
Universal Studios Florida can close at 5:00 p.m. for Halloween Horror Nights, Islands of Adventure has closings as early as 6:00 p.m., and Epic Universe regularly closes at 8:00 p.m.
Universal Orlando may now offer three major theme parks, but this September, guests will need to plan carefully to make the most of their available hours.
