Small collectibles are getting a big refresh at Magic Kingdom Park, as Walt Disney World Resort updates its network of pressed penny and medallion machines across Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Main Street, U.S.A.
A New Era for Pressed Penny Machines
For a while now, Walt Disney World Resort has been phasing out its older pressed-penny dispensers in favor of newer machines equipped with digital screens. These updated models accept both cash and card, though card transactions require guests to buy the full set of eight designs for $5, rather than the traditional $1 single-coin option available with cash. The machines also come stocked with their own copper discs, meaning guests no longer need to supply a penny of their own to get a flattened, stamped souvenir.
WDWNT documented the rollout beginning August 31, spotting new machines in Storybook Circus and near Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland. That initial wave also brought updated dispensers to the Star Traders gift shop, the area near Tomorrowland Speedway, Tony's Town Square Restaurant, and the Walt Disney World Railroad station on Main Street, U.S.A.
By September 2, WDWNT reported the upgrades had spread even further, reaching the Emporium and Fantasy Faire gift shops. Additional machines also appeared at the Confectionery, Curtain Call Collectibles, near Pirates of the Caribbean, near Tiana's Bayou Adventure, the Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe, and the Country Bear Musical Jamboree attraction.
Medallion Machines Follow Suit at Magic Kingdom Park
That same day, WDWNT confirmed new collectible medallion machines had also been installed throughout the park. These dispensers work differently from the penny machines, offering premade coins for $10 apiece or a full set of four designs for $35. While Disney has sold these medallions for years, the company recently introduced its first colorful design near Pirates of the Caribbean, breaking from the traditional solid gold and silver options.
Updated medallion machines have since appeared at the Emporium (Main Street, U.S.A.) and Sir Mickey's (Fantasyland) gift shops, along with machines offering both colorful and single-toned coins at the Walt Disney World Railroad station, the Main Street Firehouse, under the veranda in Adventureland, and near Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
As with the pressed pennies, these medallions typically showcase a Disney character styled or posed to match a nearby attraction, with each design in a set sharing a location-specific stamp on one side.
Guests can find other pressed pennies and collectible medallions throughout Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney Springs, and the Disney Resort hotels.
