Disney Officially Renames ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’

Few Christmas movies have achieved the staying power of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Released in 1992, Brian Henson's adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol puts the Muppets at the center of the story, with Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Gonzo as Charles Dickens, and Michael Caine delivering a surprisingly straight-faced performance as Ebenezer Scrooge.

More than three decades later, the movie remains one of Disney's most popular holiday classics, particularly on its streaming service Disney+. And while the film itself hasn't changed (except for the version with the restored song “When Love Is Gone,” which can be found on the streamer), the name of its live concert experience certainly seems to have.

For its return to the UK this year, Disney is once again using a slightly different title for the production — continuing a rather amusing tradition that has seen the concert go through several variations since it first arrived in the UK.

The Muppet Christmas Carol Keeps Changing Its Name

The production made its UK debut in 2021 under the relatively simple name The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert. Since then, the name has often changed between Disney and the ticket sellers. Now, Disney is advertising the production as The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film.

So, is Disney actually renaming the show every year? Not necessarily. The production itself remains essentially the same: the 1992 movie is screened while its musical score is performed live by an orchestra. But its official branding certainly seems to have a habit of changing.

And now that the concert is returning to the UK for another festive tour, it looks like Disney has given The Muppet Christmas Carol yet another name.
