For nearly two decades, Harry Potter’s permanent theme-park presence has been synonymous with Universal. That exclusivity is now ending. Miral and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences have officially revealed three Harry Potter-themed lands for Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island: Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, and the Forbidden Forest.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will become the first permanent Harry Potter theme-park project outside parks operated by Universal, creating a new destination for the franchise while Universal continues operating Wizarding World lands in the United States and abroad. There is no announcement that Universal is losing Harry Potter; rather, the franchise is expanding beyond Universal’s park network.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi Harry Potter Expansion Breaks the Universal Pattern
Miral announced the three-land expansion on September 7, 2026. According to the company, the Harry Potter areas will span approximately 63,000 square meters, or 678,000 square feet, and construction is targeted for completion in 2029. Warner Bros. World’s official Harry Potter page says a launch date has not been announced.
That distinction is important: a 2029 construction target is not the same as a confirmed 2029 opening date.
The project is more defined than the single Harry Potter-themed land first announced in 2022. Guests are now promised three environments plus world-exclusive Harry Potter-themed rides created specifically for Abu Dhabi.
For fans following the franchise’s theme-park evolution, the move represents a genuine break from the model that has defined Harry Potter attractions for years. Universal Orlando Still Has Three Wizarding World Destinations
The Abu Dhabi announcement does not mean Universal Orlando Resort is removing or surrendering Harry Potter. Universal’s official website promotes Wizarding World experiences across three Orlando parks: Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, and Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe.
Epic Universe opened in 2025 with Ministry of Magic, and Inside the Magic recently covered changes to Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry.

So the accurate takeaway is not that Warner Bros. has stripped Universal of Harry Potter. It is that Universal will no longer be the only theme-park operator with a permanent Harry Potter land once the Abu Dhabi project opens.
Abu Dhabi Is Getting Experiences Universal Parks Will Not Have
The competitive wrinkle is exclusivity. Miral says the new lands will contain “world-exclusive” Harry Potter-themed rides created only for Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. Neither Miral nor the park has yet disclosed the names, ride systems, storylines, or attraction count in its latest official announcement.
The environments overlap with familiar Universal territory: Orlando guests know Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Castle, while the Forbidden Forest features prominently in Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
Abu Dhabi, however, is packaging those settings into one enormous indoor expansion. Warner Bros. World is already a climate-controlled indoor theme park, and the Potter project will join its six existing immersive lands.
The broader Warner Bros. World expansion also includes the previously announced Kryptonite Collider and Superman Up and Away DC attractions. Miral says all of the additions together will increase the park’s overall size by more than 50%, adding roughly 70,000 square meters of theme-park space.
For U.S. Harry Potter Fans, the Newest Exclusives Require a Much Longer Trip
For American fans accustomed to experiencing major new Harry Potter attractions in Orlando or Hollywood, Warner Bros. World’s exclusive rides introduce a geographic catch: these particular experiences are being built in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
That does not mean U.S. fans have been “abandoned.” Universal Orlando recently expanded the franchise through Epic Universe, where Ministry of Magic spans wizarding Paris and the British Ministry. Inside the Magic has also reported on future construction connected to Ministry of Magic, although permits do not confirm a specific new Potter attraction.
Still, the strategic shift is meaningful. A fan who wants to experience every major permanent Potter theme-park destination will eventually have a non-Universal stop on the list, and some rides are explicitly being reserved for that destination.
What Happens Next for Harry Potter and Universal
Several of the most important details remain unknown. Miral has not announced an opening date, attraction names, ride technology, height requirements, dining lineup, retail lineup, or how the three lands will connect operationally.
What is confirmed is substantial enough: three Harry Potter lands, approximately 63,000 square meters of themed space, exclusive rides, and a construction-completion target of 2029. Warner Bros. World says more details will be revealed in future announcements.
For Universal fans, the bigger story is not the end of the Wizarding World they already know. It is the end of Universal’s status as the franchise’s only permanent theme-park home. Once Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi opens its Harry Potter expansion, the global map of the Wizarding World will have changed—and the next major Potter ride fans want to experience may require a flight to Yas Island.
