Days before its planned September 14 debut, The Magic of Disney Animation has soft-opened inside the Walt Disney Studios Lot. Guests can now explore the experience early, putting the finishing touch on an area built around Disney characters, animation, and creativity.
It also brings back a piece of what once made Hollywood Studios stand apart.
Over the years, the park has leaned heavily into immersive lands and major franchises. The Magic of Disney Animation takes a different approach. Instead of transporting guests into one particular movie, Disney is celebrating the artists, characters, and animated stories that helped build the company.
A Different Kind of Disney Experience Has Arrived
The Walt Disney Studios Lot replaced the former Animation Courtyard and has gradually introduced guests to its new identity.

Olaf Draws! adds another interactive element featuring the popular character, while the Once Upon a Studio Theater celebrates Disney's long history of animated characters and stories.
Together, these offerings create an experience that isn't tied to just one franchise.
Disney instead reaches across generations of animation. That makes The Magic of Disney Animation especially interesting for families whose favorite Disney movies may come from completely different eras.
With the soft opening underway, guests can experience these additions before the attraction officially opens on September 14.
But some of the smallest details may be what longtime Hollywood Studios fans appreciate most.
Old-School Hollywood Studios Is Hiding Everywhere
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has undergone a dramatic transformation over the last decade.
Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge brought elaborate environments and major attractions to the park. At the same time, Hollywood Studios gradually moved away from some of the movie-making elements that once shaped its identity.

Guests can find Easter eggs referencing classic Disney movies throughout the experience. Disney has also displayed pencil sketches tied to older animated films, including The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949) and The Fox and the Hound (1981).

The Magic of Disney Animation is currently listed to operate from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. when it officially opens September 14.
Hours then vary during its first two weeks:
- September 14-17: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- September 18-19: 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- September 20-27: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- September 28 onward: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
That September 28 change makes a significant difference. Guests visiting later will have a smaller daily window to explore the experience than those arriving during its opening weeks.
Hollywood Studios Has Reconnected With Its Past
The Magic of Disney Animation doesn't need to become the park's biggest attraction to make an impact.
Its value comes from something simpler.
