A familiar Mickey Mouse experience is about to rejoin the Disney’s Hollywood Studios lineup after sitting out much of the late summer.
Guests haven’t been able to catch the attraction for weeks, but this wasn’t the kind of closure that came with a major construction project. Disney had another use for the space, temporarily taking the experience off the schedule while the theater hosted a limited-time offering.
That temporary takeover is almost finished.
Disney’s latest schedule now points to a September return, giving guests a firm date to watch if they’re heading to Hollywood Studios later this month.
Disney’s Schedule Finally Gives Guests a Date
Vacation Fun is scheduled to return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Sunday, September 27.
Operating hours for the Mickey and Minnie Mouse experience appear on Walt Disney World’s schedule beginning that day, marking the end of a closure that started in early August.
That leaves guests visiting before September 27 with a little more waiting to do. Vacation Fun is scheduled to remain unavailable until then. At the same time, those visiting on or after September 27 should see it return to the park lineup, as long as Disney doesn’t make any further schedule adjustments.
While this isn’t the reopening of a major thrill ride, it gives Hollywood Studios another indoor experience. Vacation Fun offers guests a chance to sit down for a bit before heading back out to the park’s larger attractions.
More importantly, the September 27 date lines up closely with the reason the theater has been unavailable in the first place.
Why Did the Attraction Close?
Disney stopped showing Vacation Fun in early August so the Mickey Shorts Theater could serve a completely different purpose.
Beginning August 11, Disney started distributing its Kermit the Frog Annual Passholder magnet from the theater. Eligible Walt Disney World Annual Passholders can pick up the limited-time magnet there through September 24.
That puts only three days between the end of the scheduled magnet distribution and the return of Vacation Fun.
It’s also not the first time Disney has temporarily removed the show while using the theater for a special event.
Vacation Fun closed during portions of April and May earlier this year when the Mickey Shorts Theater hosted a May the 4th merchandise event.
Once that event finished, the attraction returned. Now, Disney is preparing to follow a similar pattern after the Annual Passholder magnet distribution ends.
And when the doors reopen for Vacation Fun, guests will once again find an experience built around Mickey and Minnie’s animated adventures.
Mickey and Minnie Have Plenty of Vacation Memories
Vacation Fun is an original animated short starring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, with the pair revisiting some of their favorite vacation memories.
Instead of relying entirely on previously released material, Disney mixes animation created specifically for the attraction with scenes from several Mickey Mouse animated shorts.
Guests will recognize clips from:
- Panda-monium
- Couples Sweaters
- Potatoland
- Croissant de Triomphe
- Entombed
- Dumb Luck
- Al Rojo Vivo
- Yodelburg
- Outback at Ya!
That combination gives the Hollywood Studios experience something different to offer Mickey and Minnie fans.
Vacation Fun also fills a different role than the park’s larger rides. There are no major thrills involved, and guests don’t have to commit much of their day to experiencing it. Instead, the indoor theater offers a place to sit, watch Mickey and Minnie, and take a short break before continuing around the park.
That option has been missing for weeks, but the wait is getting shorter.
Hollywood Studios Gets One Experience Back
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has seen plenty of activity throughout 2026, making it easy to look at any closure and wonder what might happen next.
In this case, Disney’s schedule provides the answer.
The Mickey Shorts Theater remains tied up with Kermit the Frog Annual Passholder magnet distribution through September 24. Vacation Fun is then scheduled to return September 27, bringing the theater back to its usual role just a few days later.
The situation also mirrors what happened earlier this year when Disney temporarily used the theater for its May the 4th merchandise event before bringing Vacation Fun back.
Now, another temporary absence is nearing its conclusion.
For guests arriving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios later this month, September 27 is the date to remember. Mickey and Minnie Mouse are almost ready to reclaim the theater and bring Vacation Fun back to the park lineup.
