Two years after Epic Universe opened its gates, guests visiting in 2027 might expect some of the park’s early challenges to be firmly in the past.
Some probably will be.
Others could remain part of the experience.
Epic Universe features some of Universal Orlando Resort’s most technologically ambitious attractions, but those rides also come with operational realities guests need to understand. Long waits, weather closures, growing Harry Potter demand, and costly Express Passes could all affect vacations in 2027.
For anyone already thinking about a future Universal Orlando trip, these four issues deserve some attention.
One Super Nintendo World Ride Can Eat Up Your Time
Mine-Cart Madness might look like a family coaster, but getting aboard can become one of the biggest challenges of an Epic Universe day.
Located inside SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, the Donkey Kong attraction uses an unusual ride system to make guests feel as though their mine cart is jumping over gaps in the track.
The experience has proven extremely popular.
Unfortunately, demand and capacity don't always work well together.
Mine-Cart Madness can develop lengthy waits because the attraction can't move enough guests every hour to keep up with its popularity. Downtime can create additional headaches, and rain can stop the attraction from operating.
That's particularly important in Central Florida, where an afternoon storm can arrive quickly.
Guests who skip a long morning line in hopes of finding a better wait later could instead encounter a temporary closure. Once the attraction reopens, crowds can return just as quickly.
In 2027, Mine-Cart Madness could remain one attraction that requires careful timing.
A Storm Can Take Several Rides Off the Table
The weather forecast deserves attention before any Orlando theme park day, but it can be particularly important at Epic Universe.
Eight attractions are at least partially outdoors: Constellation Carousel, Curse of the Werewolf, Dragon Racer’s Rally, Fyre Drill, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Mine-Cart Madness, Stardust Racers, and Yoshi’s Adventure.
When bad weather moves through the area, multiple rides can become unavailable around the same time.
That leaves guests searching for alternatives.
Indoor attractions such as Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry can suddenly become much more attractive.
The result can be frustrating. Even if the attraction you want isn't closed because of weather, its wait could grow because several other rides are temporarily unavailable.
Having multiple backup plans could remain important in 2027.
Battle at the Ministry Could Face Even More Demand
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry doesn't need much help drawing a crowd.
The attraction has routinely ranked among Epic Universe's busiest rides, with demand becoming strong enough on some days that the line has stopped accepting additional guests early.
That alone makes leaving it until closing risky.
Then comes 2027.
The new Harry Potter television adaptation is expected to premiere on Max in December 2026. While nobody can know exactly how the show will affect theme park attendance, another major Harry Potter project could bring fresh attention to the franchise.
Universal Orlando has multiple Wizarding World destinations, but Epic Universe offers the resort's newest Harry Potter land and attraction.
If interest does increase, Battle at the Ministry could feel the effects.
Guests who consider the ride essential may want to prioritize it rather than assuming the wait will improve later.
Avoiding Standby Lines Can Get Expensive
Of course, guests can pay for additional convenience.
Universal Express Pass is available for numerous Epic Universe attractions, including several of the park's most popular rides.
However, the price can quickly become another vacation expense to consider.
Epic Universe Express Pass starts at $199 per guest, with dynamic pricing allowing costs to rise depending on the date.
Multiply that starting price across an entire family and things get expensive quickly.
Four guests would spend at least $796 on Express Pass alone. That doesn't include regular admission or anything else purchased during the trip.
For some families, the time saved could justify the additional expense. For others, nearly $800 or more simply won't fit into the vacation budget.
That leaves guests with a choice: pay substantially more for additional convenience or build a touring strategy around standby lines.
By 2027, Epic Universe should feel considerably more established than it did during its opening year. Still, becoming an established theme park doesn't automatically eliminate long lines, unpredictable weather, or expensive upgrades.
Guests who understand those problems before arriving will have a much better chance of keeping their day on track.
