There are very few movies that audiences know as well as Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). From the opening crawl to the Battle of Yavin, generations of viewers have grown up knowing exactly how George Lucas' original space opera unfolds. But Lucasfilm is now giving fans an opportunity to experience that familiar story with considerably more context.
Star Wars: A New Hope: Triple Take (2027) effectively creates an extended version of the original adventure by showing what happened through the memories of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.
The upcoming graphic novel, written by Chas! Pangburn and Kim Shearer, revisits the story from three separate perspectives. Rather than simply adding new scenes to the existing narrative, it expands the audience's understanding of the characters who were already at the center of it.

Think about everything that happens in A New Hope: Luke discovers the Force, joins the rebellion, helps rescue Leia, faces Darth Vader, and ultimately takes part in the destruction of the Death Star. That's one version of the story. Leia has experienced many of those same events, but her circumstances are completely different. She is already a leader in the rebellion when Luke enters her life, and she sees the Empire's threat from an entirely different position.
Then there's Han Solo, whose recollection of the adventure is presumably going to be somewhat more flattering toward himself.
Publisher Simon & Schuster describes Triple Take as a “multi-perspective retelling” in which three distinct visual styles reflect the personalities, memories, and versions of the truth belonging to the three heroes.
So while the 1977 movie remains exactly as audiences remember it, the story around it is about to get even bigger. That makes Triple Take an unusual extended edition. It doesn't need to add minutes to the original film to give fans more A New Hope — it just adds perspective.
The graphic novel is being released as part of the franchise's 50th-anniversary celebrations. Lucasfilm initially announced the release for February 2027; however, the current publisher listing gives it an April 27, 2027 release date.
