Disney+ subscribers will have a new way to watch their favorite movies and shows beginning in October.
Disney has confirmed that Playlists are coming to Disney+, giving subscribers the option to choose themed collections that continuously play content rather than selecting every movie or episode individually.
It's another change to a streaming service that looks considerably different from the Disney+ that originally launched.
Disney+ Is Adding Playlists
The new Playlists feature is designed to offer what Disney calls a “continuous, lean-back viewing experience.”
Instead of opening Disney+, searching through its library, and choosing something specific, subscribers can select a Playlist based on a genre, franchise, character, or mood. Disney+ will then handle what plays next.
The concept makes Disney+ feel a little more like traditional television. Viewers can simply choose what kind of entertainment they want and start watching without making another decision after every movie or episode.
Disney has already confirmed several options, including Action and Adventure Movies, Romantic Comedies, Pixar Movies, Mickey and Friends, Bluey, and Modern Family.
Subscribers will still have full playback controls while using the feature.
Halloween Will Bring More Options
October gives Disney an obvious opportunity to introduce more seasonal choices.
Disney has confirmed that Halloween Episodes, Halloween Movies, Halloween Throwbacks, Huluween Episodes, Huluween Movies, and The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror will all receive themed Playlists.
Seasonal Playlists aren't limited to Halloween, either. Disney says additional seasonal collections will become available throughout the year.
The feature could also give older Disney+ content another chance to reach viewers. Instead of subscribers needing to search for a specific Halloween episode or forgotten movie, those titles can become part of a larger continuous collection.
Disney+ and Hulu Continue Moving Closer
The Playlist rollout comes as Disney+ and Hulu continue sharing more programming.
Disney's October schedule includes multiple releases specifically designated for both platforms.
Adventure Time: Side Quests Season 2 and Coven Academy Season 1 arrive on both services October 2. The 2026 Austin City Limits Music Festival will also livestream across Disney+ and Hulu.
Later in the month, Hulu Originals such as Between Steps and Merry Berry Love will appear on both services.
For Disney+ subscribers, October isn't simply bringing another collection of new movies and shows. Disney is changing how people can actually watch them.
Playlists introduce an experience closer to turning on a channel and seeing what's playing rather than searching through hundreds of individual titles.
And beginning in October, that option officially becomes another part of Disney+.
