October trips to Walt Disney World come with plenty of reasons to be excited. Halloween festivities are underway, seasonal offerings have arrived, and fall is in full swing across the resort.
But October visitors also have several operational issues to consider before heading through the gates.
Here are seven updates October visitors should know before finalizing their plans.
1. Walt Disney World Railroad Will Be Closed
Guests hoping to circle Magic Kingdom aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad will have to make other plans.
The railroad temporarily closed on September 28 and is expected to reopen sometime in November 2026. As a result, October visitors shouldn’t count on using the train during their vacation.
The closure affects more than an attraction. The railroad also provides transportation between different sections of Magic Kingdom, making it a convenient option for guests trying to move around the park.
Those visiting toward the end of October should check Disney’s operating calendar for any updates.
2. Lilypad Has Arrived in Toy Story Land
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has something different waiting inside Toy Story Land.
Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet introduced in Toy Story 5 (2026), joined Alien Swirling Saucers on September 25 through Lilypad’s Jams.
Lilypad now acts as a DJ for the attraction, bringing remixed Toy Story favorites and original songs to the experience.
There’s entertainment outside the ride, too. Guests can participate in a doodle-guessing game, solve word puzzles, and watch “home videos” featuring familiar Toy Story characters.
That gives returning visitors another reason to explore this section of Andy’s backyard.
3. Magic of Disney Animation Requires Some Flexibility
Elsewhere at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, The Magic of Disney Animation gives October visitors several experiences to explore.
However, families shouldn’t automatically expect every part of the area to follow identical operating hours each day. Hours and daily operations can vary.
Guests should check My Disney Experience and ask Cast Members about that day’s operations.
Anyone making the area a priority may also want to visit earlier rather than saving everything for the end of the night. That leaves more room to adjust if operations differ from expectations.
4. Carousel of Progress Remains Closed
Magic Kingdom has another significant closure in Tomorrowland.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress shut down in July 2026 for a lengthy update and won’t return during October. The attraction isn’t expected to welcome guests again until 2027.
For some families, Carousel of Progress offers a chance to slow down and spend time indoors between busier attractions. Those visitors will need to find an alternative this October.
With the railroad also unavailable, Magic Kingdom will be without two longtime experiences during the month.
5. EPCOT Will Open Later on Two Dates
October visitors should pay particularly close attention to EPCOT’s schedule.
On October 23 and October 25, EPCOT is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m.
Losing an hour in the morning can affect plans for popular attractions, dining reservations, transportation, and park hopping.
Guests visiting on either date should double-check Disney’s operating calendar as their trip approaches.
6. Slush Gusher Remains Unavailable
Blizzard Beach visitors also have a closure to consider.
Slush Gusher remains unavailable heading into October, leaving the water park down one slide.
The closure may not dramatically affect every family’s visit, particularly for guests who spend only part of their day at Blizzard Beach. However, anyone specifically planning to experience Slush Gusher should know that it remains unavailable.
Because attraction availability can change, guests should check Disney’s app before visiting.
7. Magic Kingdom Will Close Early for Regular Guests
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party creates another major scheduling consideration.
October parties take place on October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31.
On those dates, regular Magic Kingdom guests without party tickets must leave by 6 p.m.
Families hoping to spend their evening inside Magic Kingdom should pay close attention when choosing their park date. A non-party day may work better for visitors wanting a longer regular park day.
October Trips Require Some Extra Planning
None of these updates means October visitors can’t have a great Disney World vacation. They do mean guests should avoid assuming every day will follow the same schedule.
Checking attraction availability and park hours shortly before visiting can prevent surprises once the vacation begins.
With closures, later openings, new entertainment, and Halloween parties all affecting operations, a little preparation can make October considerably easier to navigate.
