First-Ever ‘Minecraft’ Hotel Set for 2027, Sparking Urgent Universal Orlando Park Demands

Minecraft has spent years giving players the freedom to build almost anything they can imagine. In 2027, fans will get the chance to step into that blocky world for themselves.

Plans are moving forward for the first Minecraft hotel, and this isn't shaping up to be a simple themed place to sleep after a day at the park.

Guests will find Minecraft details throughout their stay, while an entire theme park land will bring even more of the game to life nearby.

It's all happening thousands of miles away from Orlando. Still, the project makes it easy to wonder what Minecraft could look like if a similar concept ever found its way to Universal Orlando Resort.

For now, that's purely a fan possibility. But what is actually coming in 2027 gives Orlando visitors plenty to imagine.

Minecraft Fans Will Be Able to Spend the Night Inside the Game

Chessington World of Adventures in the United Kingdom will become home to the world's first Minecraft hotel in 2027.

Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios are working together on the project, officially called the Minecraft World Hotel.

The property will have 69 themed rooms, but the Minecraft elements won't stop once guests step outside their accommodations.

Nether Portal-inspired lifts will transport visitors between floors, while mine tunnel corridors will continue the experience as guests make their way through the hotel.

Dining will receive the Minecraft treatment, too.

Plans include an underwater restaurant inspired by the game's aquatic environments. Guests will also find a Woodland Mansion-themed bar, bringing another familiar Minecraft location into the real world.

An exact opening date hasn't been announced. For now, fans know the hotel will make its debut sometime in 2027.

And anyone making the trip won't be visiting just for the hotel.

An Entire Minecraft Land Is Coming With It

Minecraft World is also heading to Chessington in 2027, expanding the project from an overnight experience into a full theme park destination.

Merlin Entertainments is developing the land alongside Mojang Studios, with attractions and interactive experiences planned around the game.

One attraction already stands apart.

Escape the Nether will become the world's first Minecraft roller coaster. The attraction will take riders on an adventure alongside Steve and Alex as they travel through the Nether, escape through a portal, and return to the Overworld.

Other Minecraft-themed experiences will round out the land.

That combination could make Chessington a major destination for Minecraft fans, particularly those who want to experience the game beyond a controller or screen.

It also creates an interesting comparison with what's already happening in Orlando.

Could Minecraft Ever Work at Universal Orlando?

Universal Orlando Resort hasn't announced plans for a Minecraft hotel, land, or attraction.

Still, Universal has already shown how effectively a video game can become a physical theme park world.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Epic Universe surrounds guests with recognizable characters, environments, rides, restaurants, merchandise, and interactive elements.

Minecraft could offer a different take on that formula.

If Universal ever pursued the property, Islands of Adventure could be an interesting place to imagine it. The Lost Continent has lost attractions and experiences over the years, drawing greater attention to that section of the park as fans consider Universal's future plans.

Again, there is no indication that Universal is pursuing Minecraft. The current Minecraft theme park projects involve Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios.

But the possibilities are difficult to ignore.

What Could Universal's World of Minecraft Look Like?

Minecraft wouldn't need to rely entirely on massive thrill rides.

Interaction could become the main attraction.

Imagine caves, villages, climbing structures, mobs, hidden areas, and interactive features that let guests collect resources or activate effects around the land.

A mine-cart family coaster could send riders underground, while another attraction could follow the family-friendly approach of Yoshi's Adventure or the faster coaster experience found on Mine-Cart Madness.

Dark rides could venture into the Nether or put guests face-to-face with Creepers, Skeletons, and other familiar mobs.

Universal could even use interactive technology for crafting challenges or digital creations that appear throughout the land.

Minecraft already revolves around exploration, creativity, and building. Those ideas could translate naturally into an interactive theme park environment.

Could Orlando Be Next?

For now, Minecraft's theme park future belongs to Chessington World of Adventures.

Minecraft World and the Minecraft World Hotel are both coming in 2027, giving players an opportunity to experience the franchise in an entirely different way.

Orlando isn't part of those plans.

But SUPER NINTENDO WORLD has already demonstrated how a video game can make the jump from a screen to a fully realized theme park destination.

Minecraft will soon get its own opportunity to make that jump.

And if the new hotel and land become a hit, Universal Orlando fans may find themselves wondering whether Minecraft could eventually build a second home much closer to them.
