Disneyland Makes Spinning Tea Cups Removal, Effective Immediately

The teacups are staying, but what changed at Disneyland Park (Paris) is a single exit gate, and Disney Parks fans are not happy about its new color.

A Ride Found Around the World

Spinning teacups inspired by Alice in Wonderland (1951) are a staple of the Disney Parks experience. Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort all have a version. Shanghai Disneyland is the lone holdout, offering “Hunny Pot Spin,” a Winnie the Pooh-inspired spinner, in its place.

Over the decades, the ride has barely changed. It's known as Mad Tea Party at Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park, Alice's Tea Party at Tokyo Disneyland, Mad Hatter's Tea Cups at Disneyland Park (Paris), and Mad Hatter Tea Cups at Hong Kong Disneyland. At the only European Disney park, though, something is now different.

On Sunday, guests at Disneyland Park (Paris) saw that cast members had painted an exit gate for the attraction a bright mint green. That shade stands out against the dark green fencing, light fixtures, and roof that surround Mad Hatter's Tea Cups. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DLPReport shared photos and guessed the goal was to help Disney Park guests find the ride exit, writing:

Painted a different color to help Guests find the exit:

Disneyland Paris Resort hasn't acknowledged the change, and the ride continues to operate normally.

The response among Disney Parks fans online was largely negative. @pmc1982 wrote:

Why! It's been fine since 1992, ruins the look completely.

Others said the gate clashes with the rest of Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, and that there were subtler ways to make it more noticeable to guests exiting.

“Well that is ugly,” said @ATCGnq4h. “Painting just the interior part would have been better…”

@MntMyoboku offered an alternative:

Make it the same pink as the teacups… yu had one job DLP….
