Horror Nights Incident Prompts Mass Warning to Universal Guests

Immediate Ban Will Take Effect

Universal Studios Japan has warned against deliberately touching performers after a video reportedly showed guests hugging zombie entertainers from behind at its Halloween event in Osaka, Japan. The response puts performer safety at the center of a controversy over physical boundaries during Halloween Horror Nights.

An October 29 report republished by Livedoor News says the footage circulated on social media on October 22. USJ told the publication it would respond appropriately when misconduct is confirmed. The report does not establish what disciplinary action, if any, followed this incident.

Universal Studios Japan Warns Against Touching Performers

Responding to the publication, USJ said it values the safety and dignity of everyone involved with the park, including entertainers and crew. Its response specifically identified deliberate hugging, grabbing arms or shoulders, and hitting as unacceptable conduct that threatens safety, dignity, or physical and mental wellbeing.

That is a company response reported by a named outlet, rather than a separately published incident announcement. Readers should also distinguish the date the footage circulated from the date it was recorded: the reporting establishes the former, without independently establishing the latter.

The footage drew criticism, according to the publication. However, its circulation does not establish that the guests acted to gain followers, generate views, or provoke outrage. Those motives remain unknown, regardless of how readily the clip fits a familiar social media controversy.

Halloween Entertainment Still Has Physical Boundaries

USJ's official Street Zombies page describes an experience in which zombie performers appear throughout the streets. It lists the 2026 event for September 11 through November 8, with performances generally beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing until park closing.

The format is established entertainment at the Japanese park. Inside the Magic's coverage of USJ's 2022 Halloween lineup included Street Zombies and Zombie de Dance, showing that these encounters have been part of earlier seasons.

That theatrical setting explains why visitors encounter performers outside a conventional stage show. It doesn't make an entertainer's body part of the attraction. A frightening costume and a staged approach should never be treated as permission to grab the person doing the job.

For visitors, the practical distinction is straightforward: enjoy the performance while preserving the performer's space. Trying to force a personal interaction can interfere with an encounter that other guests are also there to experience.

Existing Rules Already Address Disruptive Conduct

USJ's published Halloween safety guidance says guests engaging in violence or disruptive behavior, including startling zombies, crew members, or other visitors, will be asked to leave. It also prohibits running and tells visitors to remain aware of their surroundings.

The same notice addresses disruptive filming and behavior that interferes with attractions or shows. These are existing published conditions of attendance. The reported company response should therefore be understood as reinforcing boundaries already covered by park guidance, rather than announcing an entirely new restriction.

USJ's broader Rules & Manners page also says crew may ask visitors to stop behavior that compromises the safety of entertainers or crew. For travelers preparing for Halloween, reviewing those instructions belongs alongside checking showtimes and planning routes through the park.

Inside the Magic has separately covered reported reminders against touching scare actors at Universal Orlando. That Florida coverage offers related context, but it does not establish how employees handled this particular encounter in Japan.

Performer Safety Extends Beyond One Viral Clip

Other reporting has examined similar concerns at Universal's American parks. Inside the Magic covered an alleged disruption involving Nikki at Universal Studios Hollywood and earlier reports of guests interfering with Art the Clown encounters in Orlando.

Its coverage of a resurfaced Hollywood scare actor attack video also illustrates why physical boundaries receive attention from Halloween audiences. Those reports involve separate events and different circumstances; none independently verifies additional details about the USJ footage.

The common editorial concern is access: street entertainment brings visitors close to working performers. Respecting that access helps preserve the experience for everyone watching. Treating harassment as entertainment shifts attention away from the show and onto conduct employees should not have to absorb as part of their work.

For witnesses, a sensible response is to alert nearby crew and leave room for employees to intervene. Joining a confrontation or crowding around with phones can make an already difficult situation harder to manage.

The reporting also leaves the performers’ own accounts unknown. Without those accounts, the article cannot describe their feelings, injuries, or subsequent working arrangements. Protecting their dignity includes resisting the temptation to fill those gaps with assumptions, even when the conduct described has prompted understandable concern among readers.

What Visitors Should Watch For Next

The sources reviewed do not establish whether the guests were identified, removed, banned, or referred to police. They also do not announce a suspension of Street Zombies or a change to its published season dates.

That leaves a clear distinction between policy and outcome: USJ has stated its position, while the consequences of this reported encounter remain undisclosed. Demands for lifetime bans online should not be presented as disciplinary decisions already made.

Visitors planning a remaining Halloween trip should consult USJ's current event information and follow crew instructions on arrival. Any subsequent company announcement about enforcement or entertainment changes would provide the next substantive development beyond the circulating video.
