Universal is preparing for its Christmas season, but families hoping to meet one of its biggest holiday stars could face a difficult decision this year.
The resort's seasonal celebrations officially begin November 14, bringing back festive entertainment, special character appearances, and plenty of Christmas traditions.
However, one particular character has become so popular that meeting him can take hours out of a family's vacation.
Visitors who don't want to spend that much time waiting have other options, though those alternatives carry surprisingly high price tags.
For the 2026 holiday season, Universal offers three ways to meet the Grinch, and families should understand what each experience involves before making plans.
Grinchmas Returns to Islands of Adventure
Universal Orlando celebrates the holidays from November 14, 2026, through January 3, 2027, with Christmas festivities across the resort.
At Universal's Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing welcomes visitors to Grinchmas, featuring holiday decorations, cheerful Whos, and the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular.
Of course, one of the biggest reasons guests visit is the chance to interact with the Grinch himself.
The character resembles Jim Carrey's version from How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), bringing the same sarcastic humor, exaggerated expressions, and entertaining personality that fans recognize.
His popularity has created a situation where guests must choose between spending their time or spending additional money.

The Free Grinch Meet-and-Greet Has a Catch
For visitors who don't want to purchase an extra experience, Honk Honkers in Seuss Landing offers the traditional Grinch meet-and-greet.
Guests can find scheduled appearance times through Universal Orlando's official app and enter the standby line with regular park admission.
There's no additional fee, making this the most affordable choice.
Unfortunately, it can also become the most time-consuming.
During previous Christmas seasons, guests have encountered waits lasting two to three hours. In 2024, reported wait times even approached seven hours.
Although those extreme waits aren't guaranteed to happen again, the Grinch's popularity makes long lines a realistic possibility.
For families visiting Universal for just one day, spending several hours waiting for a photograph could mean missing other attractions and entertainment.
That's where Universal's paid experiences become appealing.

Families Can Pay Over $200 for Grinch Breakfast
The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast gives guests another opportunity to meet the character while enjoying a holiday meal.
Instead of relying on the traditional standby line, families purchase a separate breakfast experience that includes food, drinks, and a chance to interact with the Grinch.
The menu features themed offerings, familiar breakfast dishes, specialty treats, and a nonalcoholic beverage.
However, the convenience comes at a price.
Adult admission costs $64.99 plus tax, while children ages 3 through 9 pay $38.99 plus tax.
A family with two adults and two children would spend $207.96 before taxes.
That price also excludes admission to Universal's Islands of Adventure, which guests must have to attend.
For families already spending hundreds on theme park tickets, adding another $200 or more for breakfast might be difficult to justify.
Still, Universal offers an even more expensive alternative.

Universal's Holiday Tour Adds Another Expensive Option
Universal's Holiday Tour combines a Grinch encounter with additional Christmas entertainment during an approximately two-and-a-half-hour guided experience.
Guests receive reserved seating for the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular, optional reserved viewing for Universal's Holiday Parade featuring Macy's, and opportunities to meet the Grinch and Max.
Prices vary by date, with a reported starting cost of $69.99 per person. Some dates could cost approximately $100-$120 per guest, plus tax.
At $120 per person, a family of four would pay $480 before taxes or theme park admission.
Guests also need valid Park-to-Park admission, which is not included in the tour price.
Universal's booking information doesn't clearly show a separate discounted child rate, so families should verify pricing before making reservations.
While the tour includes more than a character greeting, its total cost could become substantial.

Is Meeting the Grinch Worth It?
Visitors who decide against these experiences still have plenty of ways to celebrate Christmas at Universal Orlando.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter features seasonal decorations and nighttime entertainment, including The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle.
Universal Studios Florida presents its Holiday Parade featuring Macy's, and guests can look for Earl the Squirrel.
Epic Universe also offers festive touches, including holiday celebrations in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
Many seasonal offerings are included with regular admission.
Ultimately, meeting the Grinch comes down to what families value most. Waiting in line saves money, while breakfast and the Holiday Tour offer paid alternatives.
For some visitors, that special interaction will justify the sacrifice. Others might decide their time and vacation budget are better spent elsewhere.
